STJ - Day 5 report - 11/25/2014 03:25 PM

After the great day on Gypsea Girl, the next morning brought quiet. Most took the day to sleep in as we had a good early morning rain. No big plans, no rush to get anywhere, so let them sleep in. Coffee is made and I take up comfortable seat under the porch. Breeze is cool, but nothing like Sunday when TS Bertha rolled through.

After a lazy breakfast, we got the Explorer packed with all the necessities for Maho. Clouds still lingering, but that will not deter us. We take the scenic route along the North Shore to Maho. Not much traffic today and things look great as we pull. Maho is nearly empty and we get a prime parking spot across from the beach. Only the necessities get unloaded for the short walk.

The overcast sky keeping everyone away, hopefully the turtles will still be out. We find our nice spot in the shade. Parker and I grab our snorkel gear and go search for the turtles. It doesn’t take long to find them. We also catch a glimpse of a good size shark. This bay is just so much fun to enjoy.

After an hour or so, the rains return and continue, but it doesn’t bother the turtles, so the choice is easy, set on the beach and get wet or swim with the turtles.

The sun and rain mix continues until early afternoon before clearing up altogether. The beach remains quiet until all the clouds are gone, then the activity picks up in the street.

As others arrive, we decide to share our piece of paradise and head back to the villa. Tonight is a Cruz Bay night. We head into town to watch the sunset from Mōtu. They have a great outdoor deck! No plans yet for dinner, but the sunset is our priority.

After the sun goes down, we decide a small dinner would be right. For some reason, chicken wings were on the brain, so we headed to Woody’s. Light crowd, so we grabbed a table and relaxed. Tomorrow “the boy” would turn 16 and his request was to rent a dinghy and be on the water again. No one could argue with that plan and we already had one reserved.

The last photo of the boy as a 15 y.o.
