Crew needed in STT - 03/10/2015 12:51 AM

Need a person to help me sail my boat over to the BVI and back - just anchor duty and maybe help with sails...Today is Monday 9th March - sometime this week would be awesome!

C'mon, admit it -- you posted this just to torment most of us.

You might try at the Yacht Club? Maybe someone wants to take a trip...

Re: Crew needed in STT - 03/10/2015 01:16 AM

Crazy isn't it - on a 46 foot boat would like to sail to BVI asap but need someone to help with anchor and perhaps sails.

Rum included! LOL

Probably 5 to 10 days in BVI then back to STT - crew gets to pick itinerary seriously!

Yacht club - assume Red Hook? I'm in Charlotte Amalie harbour - if I could raise anchor and sail there then I would just go direct to BVI

But you have a point - I could take a safari taxi to Red Hook to check the notice boards I guess?

Check in Frenchtown at Hook Line Sinker, Betsy's or at the CYOA base - plenty of sailors who may be willing to take a sail - or dinghy over to Crown Bay and ask around at Tickles - there is a bulletin board at Tickles and Hook Line where you can post a sign.

The STYC is in Cowpet Bay northwest of Great St James/Christmas Cove.

Get me a round trip flight from Beef island to SJU
and I'll deliver it in one day to anywhere in the BVI.
You can have a sleigh ride back to St Thomas

Huh? I thought you were on a sub 50' mono. Why can't you motor forward a bit and walk to the bow and raise the anchor? It's less than 30' deep in the harbor. Once the anchor breaks out, pick up another 10' of chain and ease away from other downwind boats, hit the autopilot on a safe course and finish raising the anchor at your leisure. Rocna's usually bring up mud from the harbor and I let them hang in the water a few feet under the surface to clean it off anyway. Good luck.

Try vinow.com in the relocation forum. Someone will jump at the chance.

Okay. I assumed you were hanging out on St Thomas. Another idea is the community at Water Island, Crown Bay, Gregerie East Channel. They are all in dinghy distance from you.

Re: Crew needed in STT - 03/12/2015 12:09 PM

I am in St Thomas C A harbour no worries there are tons of boats around - I just need to ask for help which is sometimes difficult for me. Once the anchor is up I can mark it so I know where the hook is

Just don't want to damage bow when it comes out of the water...

Re: Crew needed in STT - 03/12/2015 12:23 PM

Don't worry about the anchor damaging your bow,if it bangs against your bow the most you'll get is a scratch.
Or if you see someone passing in a dinghy ask them to tie off your stern and help you pull up the anchor then when finished they can take off.

Latitude 18 is across the water from Red Hook on the East end.

sail445 says:
3 ways to do it 1) if you have a dinghy take it across to the Lattitude dock across from American Yacht Harbor.
2) call a taxi
3) swim across but be careful for the ferry. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/toast.gif" alt="" />
