Sailing The Spanish Virgin Islands

Sailing The Spanish Virgin Islands - 04/04/2016 11:24 AM

We are planning to sail around the Spanish Virgin Islands of Puerto Rico over the next few weeks. Has anyone found places in Culebra or Vieques to top off with water, buy ice and dispose of trash...?

We spent two weeks in October in the SVIs.

For Culebra, the Dinghy Dock bar in Culebra sells water for $0.40 per gallon filled into your jerry can. The fuel station is accessible by dinghy in the canal and sells diesel, gasoline and water by Jerry can.

We stopped in Puerto Del Rey on the way to Vieques and got a water and fuel fill. The marina was $50 per night for our 40-footer, water included. Diesel was about $2.25 per gallon.

Our visit to Vieques was brief due to weather. We did not go ashore.

I wrote up our trip, but its still a work in progress and needs editing. You can read the current state at: https://dinghylife.wordpress.com/2015/11/23/culebra-4-nights-october-19-22-2015/

Cheers, Rick

On Culebra, drop trash in the blue barrels at the end of the public dock. We get ice at grocery store just off the canal. As for water - head to Puerto Del Ray and spend the night, or fill up and go to one of the nearby islands (e.g. Isla Palominos).

If you anchor off Esperanza, Vieques you can drop trash in the barrels near the old dock. There's a green colored grocery store up the hill, maybe a 10-min walk or so. There you can get ice and food.

Glen Kranig (340-227-4288) has 6 moorings off Esperanza and they are reasonably priced. Call him to arrange payment. He's also a wealth of local knowledge. Highly recommend you talk with him.
