Wedding in Puerto Rico

Wedding in Puerto Rico - 06/28/2016 08:14 PM

Hello All, My niece is getting married in P.R., June 2017. We usually charter and stay in the BVI, but are thinking about combining a bareboat charter either before or after the wedding. Can anyone recommend a charter company for a week long charter in P.R. (or USVI that we could sail to P.R. for a day or two)? Thanks for your help.

I can't help you with charters in Puerto Rico, but I suspect they are all out of the Fajardo area. I am pretty sure you can charter with CYOA or Island Yachts on St Thomas and sail to Puerto Rico. Where is the wedding?

SailCaribe is in Fajardo. They have mostly Lagoon cats and Jeaneau monos. We chartered with them a few years ago. We had a couple boat issues but I don't believe either was their fault. I think you need to charter for at least ten days to be able to make the trip to the USVI but I'm not certain. In any case, the SVIs are nice - some say a lot like the BVIs 20 years ago before they started catering to the "discerning" visitors .

Thanks for the info - The wedding is at Villa Montana Beach Resort. We may call CYOA (I've heard good things about them on the BVI site) and see if it is feasible. Figured we would be in the area and combining with a sailing trip would be a fun change.

http://www.sailcaribe.com/ You will likely be sailing to their marina if you are coming from another operator anywhere in the Carribean. A power yacht from http://virginmotoryachts.com/travel/bvi/ on Tortola would also give you many options. The cleanest least hassle and doubt would be to do the wedding then leave to do a charter without the complexities of of trying to mix the two with a boat, distances, and more. Villa Montana Beach Resort is on the opposite end of the island that you would likely use a charter boat. We have made use of large charter boats for wedding parties at both Little Dix and Caneel Bay. We put the boat in those anchorages with some of the younger crowd bunking and partying all night on the boat with day trips for others in the party not into hotel lizard sitting. Villa Montana Beach Resort is fully exposed and on the wrong end of the Puerto Rico.
