Sailing/fishing USVI - 01/08/2017 05:06 PM

Will be sailing out of Nanny Cay BVI in Feb. and want to know the basics for sailing USVI. Fishing rules? Lobster?
Conch? Must check in with customs first? Closest customs?
Anything else is welcome:)
Thanks, Ron

That's a lot of questions. Almost all have been already answered on this and the BVI board. I suggest you give the search function a try. Also suggest you order the Cruising Guide for the Virgin Islands by Scott since it has a wealth of information.

First clear out of the BVI, then clear in USVI - Cruz Bay, St John is closest.

A quick internet search yielded this guide to USVI fishing regs. Generally much less restrictive than BVI.

to answer your question, there is no license required to fish in the USVI. You can catch lobster and conch as well. There are restrictions on lobster as to size. BVI draconian laws on fishing are absolutely absurd. $10,000 fine and possible loss of vessel, a joke. In many years fishing BVI, we have never seen the fishing police anywhere
