USVI - Weekend Beach closures (4pm - 8am)

USVI - Weekend Beach closures (4pm - 8am) - 01/20/2021 09:47 PM

According to the usviupdate website's Information for Leisure Travelers page updated Jan 3, 2021, "All beaches shall be closed from 4 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following day on
Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.."

I have no problem with this ,however, what if you need to cross a public beach to reach a main road to reach town with a charter group?

As an example, if it were Saturday night and you were on your charter vessel in Maho and you wanted to visit Cruz bay for dinner....would this be permissible?

I could certainly be overthinking this - but my current loose sailing plan includes two overnights in Maho/Francis that would likely land on Saturday and a Sunday.

I would guess that other charterers in other bays might have or could expect to experience a similar scenario.

Thoughts?

You shouldn’t have a problem, but you might find it hard to get a taxi before the No-Sums get you in the early evening.
You could bring your boat into the Caneel Bay area dinghy into Cruz Bay or have someone rent a car and park it in Maho.

There is not a Police Presence waiting to nab people traversing the beach to get a taxi.
The 4pm weekend closing is meant to deter parties of groups and gatherings in the Covid times.
Without making previous arrangements with a taxi driver it might be a LONG wait getting a taxi at Maho that time of day/weekend.
Having dinner in Cruz Bay is great but I would put the big boat a lot closer -- Caneel,is an easy dinghy ride or maybe use the dock there.

Nothing to worry about - we arrived on St Thomas at around 3pm on a Saturday - got to Sapphire Beach and walked down to the beach bar — they just politely told us they were closed and so was the beach — people were walking back and forth to their properties - they just don’t want anyone hanging out or congregating.
