Time from STT to CA Ferry

Time from STT to CA Ferry - 10/20/2013 03:34 PM

I've got a couple coming in on Sunday Nov. 24th and they need to (read: would really like to) catch the 5:30 ferry to West End, Tortola.

This is our first time flying into STT, so I have no experience with either traveling from the airport to the ferries or how punctual the ferries are.

Is it possible to make it from landing at 4:20 to the ferry at 5:30? Thanks.

Do you have checked bags? That can set things back a bit. But, in your favor the ferries rarely leave at the posted times. The ferry dock is a quick cab ride from the airport, but airport based cabs are 15 passenger vans and don't leave until full, so that can be a set back. You might want to contact private cabbie Kevin Campbell, he has saved us and others many times. kevintaxi101@yahoo.com or phone 340-643-0025. He is not expensive, so give him a nice tip. And, he has the ferry schedules memorized and knows who is running, etc. He will meet you at baggage claim with your name on paper and held up to get your attention.

I'd probably have a back up plan figured out just in case. I know one time when we took the ferry a couple of years ago, we took a ferry at 6 or something like that - Left CA and stopped at Red Hook, West End and then Road Town. Not sure if anything like that is available or not this time of year though.

Back up plan, engaged! We're going to have one of our boats just sail to Charlotte Amalie and wait for the couple, and then head to JVD the next day. We realized it was going to be a bit of a hassle to make all that happen so quickly. That said, we did get in touch with kentaxi101 to take care of us when the rest of get in on Friday. Thanks for the suggestion!

Alternative idea might be, to have one of the boats clear customs (which you are required to do) and meet them in Red Hook. It seems that it would make the next day much more enjoyable. They could possibly spend night at Christmas Cove or in Red Hook. Lots of grear restaurants in the Red Hook area.

Agree with Irish Mist. Also the cab ride to Red Hook isn't that much more than the short ride from the airport to the ferry dock, which is a rip off! You will have to clear in Cruz bay though.
