St Thomas advise

Hi there

We are headed down in a couple of weeks for our first trip to STT. I was wondering if you could give us some advice on places to eat, boat trips, things to see, etc. that might be good. We are not gourmet eaters by any means, but don't want fast food either. We like a good fish place in the $15-$25 price range, and also interested in beach bars we should visit, as well. If there is one place and one thing you would do what would it be? Thanks in advance! Happy Holidays...

Where on STT? Do you have a car? You can get decent bar food like Island Time in that price range. Fish Tails in Red Hook is excellent.

Hook, Line and Sinker in Frenchtown has excellent seafood at moderate prices.

Hook,Line And Sinker has good food at decent prices and the service is excellent. It's also where the first charter boat company (Avery's Boathouse) in the VI's used to be.
Other reasonable places would be The Green House in CA, Fat Turtle at Yacht Haven Grande in CA., Molly Malones in Red Hook for good breakfast and lunches.
If you go to St John for a day you'll find some simple laid back place to eat like the Beach Bar in Cruz bay , Excellent juicy Rib Eye Sandwich and seafood goodies.
If you like Fish and Chips go to the Ship Wreck Landing in Coral Bay, Big tender chunks of fish in a fried batter that's part pancake mix and cooked just right.

Food: Ha, ha! There is no such thing as fast food, even at Mc Donald's! Reasonable fish places: Fish Tails in Red Hook (love their snapper native style), Hook, Line and Sinker in Frenchtown (almond-crusted yellow tail) and Mim's in Bolongo (grouper). Best bang for the buck: Cariga's in Independent Boat Yard. BBQ: Off the Grid at the Sapphire overlook. Pizza: ITP in Red Hook. Local food: Cuzzin's on Back Street.

Boat trips: You need to be more specific. What do you want to do? Just sail and snorkel? Do a hot lap of the BVI?

Places to see: Our typical show-the-visitor-around trip includes- Driving by UVI (maybe a stop at John Brewer's Bay), around the north side, maybe a stop at Hull Bay. Then Drake's Seat overlook for pictures, out east to either Coral World or Sapphire. Stop in Red Hook for a look around. Back around the south shore, maybe a stop at Iggie's at Bolongo. Usually try to time a stop at Frenchman's Reef to watch the cruise ships sail away, or Paradise Point for the same thing. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

For the hot lap of the BVI - Pirates Paradise Adventures. Adam does a great job of entertaining and managing the boat.

Marriott and yes will have a car. Thanks for all the suggestions. Will take a day and go to St John for sure. Also love a day sail/snorkel trip so if suggestions for that it would be great. If we have time the BVI trip sounds good. Any recs on companies for these would be great.

What beach would you go to if you have 1 day on a cruise? Been to Magens Bay before and it is nice, but thought I may like to try another if there's any good ideas out there. Thanks

For the BVI trip, I am a fan of the Pirate's Penny/Stormy Petrel trip (two boats,one operator). It includes the Baths, lunch at Cooper Island, snorkeling at the Indians. All with excellent service, top shelf open bar. I think it is limited to 12 passengers. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Thumbsup.gif" alt="" />

If you are at the Marriott, my suggestion of watching the sail away will be easy!

Rick: You might want your own thread for this. There are lots of beaches. What do you want to do? What amenities do you want/need?

Coki and Meagans are cruise ship beaches. A locals favorite is Lindquist, now you just have to find it, no amenities, just a beautiful quiet beach

you know what I mean, you will not 10 safari buses pulling into lindquist

I think there will be a day when you do see that. They will have to get the bathrooms and showers built as well as bar/restaurant figured out. They take visitors to Magens because it is a large beach and usually calm.

Just looking for some calm waters for swimming, maybe not too crowded and a decent place to get a bite and drink.

We love Coki, best chicken wings on island, go to Joshae's kitchen. Great walk in scuba diving, you can also snorkel around Coral World. It is roped off close to Coral World, but plenty of fish.

You haven't had milk shakes till you've had them STT style at Udder Delight. It's on the way to Magen's Bay. They are great and you won't get them made that way on the mainland. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Cheers.gif" alt="" />

If there is a roadside ice cream stand in Colorado that sells Blended ice cream choices with Cruzan, Kahlua and Cognac mixed in, in a 24 oz. to go cup that I can put in my car cup holder and drive away with, sipping all the way, I imagine that would be some competition for Udder Delite.
Now I do understand they have some flammable agricultural products for sale in Colorado that might entice some ice cream lovers to visit.

Any suggestions for sunset cruises on St Thomas? No need for food or high prices just a nice sunset, some drinks, music and fun times. Thanks

I am sure there are some you can book right from the Marriott, but the only sunset cruise I can think of off the top of my head is Heavenly Days at Bolongo.

Latitude 18 is way out east. It is a bit difficult to find, but for Dick Solberg, worth it. He plays a wide variety of music and is a great entertainer. He has been coming to St Thomas in the winter for umpteen years.
