Pizza

Our favorite pizza has always been La Belle Epoque in Marigot. Not that it is closed, we're searching for a replacement. Let me say that there are so many styles of pizza asking for the "best" pointless. What's we're looking for is pizza that is similar in style and quality to that served by La Belle Eooque, hopefully in the Simpson Bay area. Thnaks in advance for your suggestions. 36 days to go!!

I can't help with a suggestion as I have never had Belle Epoque pizza but I do like how you phrased the question. What style was the pizza?

I hope people read your post before responding with what they think is "best"! Perhaps Dominoes according to the recent "Best Of"!

La Belle Epoque was always our favourite too. This past November we had a great pizza at the Italian restaurant at the Hollywood Casino (Isola?). Also at la Main Plate at the Marina

In another post here on TTOL, a week or so ago, someone stated that the pizza chef from La Belle Epoque is now at Dreams in Nettle Bay, along with George, the previous owner of LBE. We love the pizza there!

To answer J.D., their pizza had a thin hand tossed crust that came out slightly crispy on the bottom. It was not overwhelmed by an abundance of toppings.

We used to love the pizza there before they started using those preformed frozen crusts that are like tasteless cardboard. Hope they change back to their old crust.

I agree. It is amazing that places that get famous for their pizza, get so busy that they have to resort to an "easier" or "faster" (and probably cheaper) method to prepare their food.
Not too many frozen crusts can compare to a freshly made, hand tossed pizza crust. But who am I ? Just the customer, so the business owner probably doesn't care for my opinion.

I've not had the pizza at Belle Epoque, but it sounds like typical French style pizza. Dreams has that style, as does Kakao on Orient. Neither is in Simpson Bay, however.

Also at Restaurant Soleil in Grand Case they serve pizza that is as Belle Epoc's was. We especially like their Alsace one. It's white with ham cheese onion.

The pizza at Bon Appetite fits your description. We get it at least twice each vacation. It's pretty inexpensive, too.

WE ended up at bon appetite for pizza by default ( too tired and tipsy to go anywhere else) It made me cry.

It was that bad ????

Villa Pizza in Cul de Sac excellent all round and so much more than pizza.Prices excellent also.

Pizza & Company is good. Favorite is Dreams.

My fave pizza in Simpson Bay area is Pizza Galley - thin crust, great sauce and lots of topping choices.

The usual winner of the best pizza award in the Herald's survey is Pizza Galley in Simpson Bay. I liked Belle Epoque's version and found them similar.

As you continue your search, from your description I think what you are looking for is what we would call "cracker " pizza in the US. It has a far amount of lard or fat in the crust, and the layers separate giving air between them and a very crunchy feel. http://www.pizzamaking.com/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=40534.0;attach=230885;image

Other thin crusts include NY street style - while it is very thin, it is not crunchy and in fact you need to fold it to keep from falling. BTW, Orange Fever in Orient had excellent cracker style pizza, but I don't think they have reopened yet.

Don't kill me but.....Dominos in Simpson bay. They have a 7.99 pizza that is awesome, fresh, made so good. You order the pizza to go, kill a little time in The Adult Toy Store in the parking lot. Viola, pizza and......

We take our pizza back to the condo at eat it on the balcony beach front.

What ever happened to Le Grain de Sol (English version, sorry if it's wrong) on the way to Anse Marcel? That was, I think, the best pizza on the island.

A new pizza place opened up called Pizza Italy in Simpson Bay next to Scotia Bank. It is really good in our opinion. Staff really friendly and it is busy.

Does Domino's still offer the schwarma (sp?) pizza. Always wanted to try it but never got around to it.

They did when we were there in October. Never tried it yet either, looks great.

Pizza Italy is awesome, closest to the pizza we ate in Italy. Soft, fold-able crust, lot's of cheese and excellent fresh toppings. YUM

Bon Appetit had crust as thin as a communion wafer. I cried!
