Global Entry question

Global Entry question - 06/20/2017 04:28 PM

I'm currently filling out the GOES application for GE. On the question of what countries I have visited in the last 5 years, Sint Maarten is not on the drop down list and there is no field to add anything that's not on that list.

What are people putting for this?

I put the Netherlands. You can explain during the interview.

We put Netherlands also.

Netherlands worked fine. Don't forget if you took an excursion to st Barth or anguilla to include those.

Also list France if you go to the french side right?

We also put in Netherlands and the subject never came up in our interview. Am guessing you can put down France and explain it if questioned, but as I said just a guess.

Not unless you flew in or out of the French side.

Would it be Dutch West Indies? Netherlands in Europe? Maybe Netherland Antillies but I don't even think that is correct since 2010?

Sint Maarten is on list on this site.

During my wife's Global Entry interview (at MIA) she was asked "When were you in the Netherlands?" She asnswered that she didn't think she ever was. The interview started going downhill. I was being interviewed in the next booth. She asked me if we ever had. I was about to say no when my interviewer (a much nicer guy!) said "you were in Sint Maarten, that must be it...." Wife's interviewer was still kind of a jerk, but mystery solved!

The question on the application is what countries have you visited, not which countries have you flown out of. So, if you have been on the French side, technically you have been to France.

Not as far as GE is concerned. It's what is shown on your passport and the forms you filled out to go to and return from a country. I asked that question first hand when I went to the GE interview. Its up to you to believe it or not.

We had two separate interviewers at the Charlotte Airport location and neither of them asked anything about what we put on the application form. We were the last interviews of the day so maybe they just wanted to go home. I did put The Netherlands and France on our forms.

That's weird. Especially since you don't fill out any paperwork when entering France and when I first visited back in 2008, they didn't even scan my passport. They just looked at it and handed it back to me.

Well you did have to go through custom/immigration when you returned to the USA. They would have some record of that somewhere to be found if they really wanted to find it.

You are 100% wrong. The GE online application asks you to list all the foreign countries you've [color:"red"]visited[/color] (in the previous 5 years).

CBP and DHS care very much about any foreign countries visited, not only the countries stamped in your passport.

Please don't share erroneous information.

I only shared what was told to me directly at my GE interview. Read into what ever you want from the wed site wording. All I can say is what was told to me directly. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" />

I completed a GE interview a week ago at Logan Airport. I put neither the Netherlands nor France on my form as countries visited; figured I would explain SXM when asked. I was never asked.

The length and depth of the interview seem to be up to the interviewer. Ours was very short and with the same interviewer one right after the other. He only asked if we had ever been arrested. Other than that he did the picture and fingerprints and we were on our way in 10 minutes or so.

Re: Global Entry question - 06/21/2017 10:42 AM

Three years ago when I applied for Global Entry, same problem. I believe I put in Netherlands. During the interview mentioned that my passport had only entries from three countries stamped: Sint Maarten, St. Barths, and US. The interviewer stated that she was leaving for vacation to Sint Maarten in two weeks for her timeshare there, and the rest of the interview was spent comparing restaurants and places to visit. At the end of the interview she did ask some perfunctory questions which were already completed on the application.

Yes, the interview is more of a schedule to get your pic and prints. By the time you have gotten to the interview, a background check has already been run to see if you qualify. My interview had no questions related to security and I was told this by him.

Re: Global Entry question - 06/21/2017 02:08 PM

Different interviewers clearly employ different techniques. David and I were interviewed at the same time by the same agent. David got quite a few more questions than I did, as he's traveled much more extensively than I. There were several questions asked that had already been answered on the application. When we were asked about the Netherlands, we explained that we had traveled to Sint Maarten, but that the application didn't have that option available to check.

Re: Global Entry question - 06/21/2017 05:28 PM

It is not a question of whether we believe whether you were told what you say you were told. I think everyone here believes you. The pertinent question, however, is whether someone when completing a Global Entry application should list all countries that they have visited or some subset of all such countries. I certainly believe that you should list all countries that you have visited, without any exception for countries in which you did not have your passport stamped or otherwise create any documentation known to you. When filling out any government form asking a question, it generally is better to err on the side of being over-inclusive, as opposed to being under-inclusive. Unless, of course, you know what you are doing and why.

==================
I think you got it right Scubaman - On Aruba many passports are NOT stamped but forms ARE required to be filled out

Re: Global Entry question - 06/22/2017 12:31 PM

My interview was a while ago but what I remember was that the only thing we talked about was the fact that I visit SXM every year. The other countries were on the application. Other than that we talked about activities I do like scuba and other non security topics.
