TWA Hotel at JFK

For all of you that fly from our through JFK on the way to SXM especially on Jet Blue you should consider staying at the TWA Hotel which is located in the old TWA terminal right at Terminal 5 which is the Jet Blue terminal. We just stayed there for two nights, completely enjoyed the stay and the view out to the runways from our room as well as the view from the roof top bar. There are the two old tunnel walk ways from the TWA hotel over to the Jet Blue counters. Besides overnights they also will rent part days. I will try to post pictures at some point but presently in flight back to PDX from JFK.

Good to know. Thinking about going through JFK next year our of SEA. Tried it this last May but after we had it booked it was cancelled and changed to a direct to CLT.

We're staying there on our way to SXM next month. The reviews on TripAdvisor are comical. People are complaining about the lack of luxury at $270 per night, but clearly haven't shopped around that area. We did our overnight at the Crowne Plaza JFK last year and it was awful at more than that price.

At 270 a night I'll pass. Just paid 117 including tax at the MIA airport hotel last Saturday night for our return connection.

It's about more than just a place to sleep.

When I'm going or coming back from SXM that is all I care about for my connection.

Exactly GK. Replying to all. First is that you are staying in a unique hotel that is an experience in itself. It is also right there, you can't stay any closer. No shuttle to get to Terminal 5, just a walk through a tube. if you have a runway view room you are looking out at the jets and I found that very entertaining. I wouldn't go there for 5 star rooms although ours was plenty nice, and I would not go there just for the food and I note the food and drinks were good. It is the overall unique experience matched to the location. I have never been in a hotel where I saw so many people taking pictures. Note that the hotel portion is brand new, not existing structure. The area for check in, places to eat and drink, as well as the shops is the old terminal.

For us we flew in on Alaska Airlines (T7) which was the next terminal over and an easy walk. Came in on a red eye and walked over and dropped our bags, had some coffee and went to the pool deck and relaxed. Had a bite to eat up there at the pool which was good and a couple cocktails and beers and just spent the day relaxing by the pool with a great view. Later dinner at the Lisbon Lounge. The hotel gym may be one of the best I have ever seen, if you are into that.

Check out the website, if you are into that part of history and all you will love it, if that is not important or you are trying to go on a budget it is probably not for you. I nerded out on the place, it exceeded my expectations and worth every dime to MJ and I.

That's MIA, this is JFK... the markets aren't the same. The Hampton Inn *near* JFK is almost $300 as is the Crowne Plaza. The Crowne Plaza was a joke from top to bottom - and we had to deal with a shuttle which I know makes me sound like a jerk, but it was an added inconvenience. The 2 mile shuttle ride was easily 10 minutes and that was after we waited for them to leave at their scheduled time. If the hotels around JFK were $117 a night I'd skip the TWA too, but in that market it's totally worth the price.

It's quite a spectacular building. We used it back in the 90's. Walking through that tube to your flight was amazing.
We had lattes in that red pit.
I would stay there.
And Jean Georges is a 4 star chef so......

We spent a few trips in the TWA terminal years ago.

We begin our 40th Anniversary celebration/vacation next week at the TWA hotel. The next day we fly to Vancouver to begin our Alaskan cruise.
Really looking forward to the TWA experience! (we also booked a runway view room)

It is a great use and a tribute to TWA, the Terminal, and the old days of flying.

Hoping it can stay well patronized and maintained.

We’ve gotten plans to meet with some avgeek friends here inafew weeks for dinner and drinks.. can’t wait to stay there though.

Back in March,, they actually had the Connie plane in Times Square before it reached the hotel. Great to see history enjoyed in a living museum of sorts.

Then why even chime in on this post? Get the cheapest place you can find, be proud of the low price you found and be happy with that. This hotel is not for you but it is for people who have other tastes.

Because it provides other information of possible interest to others.

We stayed at the TWA hotel 5 days after they opened (on my bday!) - I booked the day reservations became available. I had been eyeing the project since it started and was so excited to check it out. While there were a few kinks that needed ironing out, we had a BLAST. Booked a room with a view of the runway, sipped amazing cocktails @ the sunken lounge, the Lisbon Lounge & aboard the Connie. Most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. We are actually spending the night @ TWA again the night before our flight to SXM in July and can't wait to check out the rooftop pool! And you can't beat the convenience of walking to the airtrain and getting to your terminal in a matter of minutes. Plus - all other JFK hotels are off site and equally as expensive and not nearly as cool/fun!

Side note: We live in Charlotte, but always check flights out of NYC to Europe, Caribbean etc. It's always cheap to get to NYC from CLT (and NYC is ALWAYS a good idea IMO), then fly from NYC to our desired destination. In this case, we bought 2 one-way tix from CLT to EWR ($90 total!), then 2 one way tix from JFK to SXM direct ($354 total) and 2 one way tickets from SXM back to CLT - saved $802! Now I am fully aware that hotels, drinks and food in NY will eat that up in a heartbeat... but hey, I'd rather spend that $$ having fun instead of JUST on airfare. Win - win as far as I am concerned!

Agree, it is not for everybody, spend the money where you want on what you want. Everybody has their own budget and where they are willing to spend their money and where they skimp and that is OK. Myself, I like to enjoy the journey as well as the destination.

I would note for those that don't end up staying there you are still able to visit the TWA terminal and it is worth the stop.
