Fun and safe destination for young honeymooners?

Fun and safe destination for young honeymooners? - 06/02/2014 02:12 PM

My daughter and son-in-law are looking for a spot to honeymoon this February. Hailey is very familiar with the US and British Virgin Islands, but is thinking she'd like to go somewhere else for this trip so she doesn't feel so much like a tour guide for her never-been-south-of-Atlanta husband. They've mentioned both Puerto Rico and The Dominican, but as a Virgin Islands specialist, I'm not conversant with the best spots to send two newbies outside of the USVI or BVI. Any suggestions, advice, or recommendations?

Thanks! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Cheers.gif" alt="" />

Cannot help really with PR as we have only done over nites or just a few days, but the Condado area would be a good option for PR.

Domican is primarly all inclusive, not bad, just that is what they would be looking at.

Aruba and St. Maarten would be options. Some all inclusive in St. Maarten but not much. Aruba has more all inclusive but also a lot of hotel/time share options. Both would be easy to get around and confortable for someone that has never been out of the US before.

Cancun would be another option.

Thinking that they might prefer to be somewhere where English is generally spoken by all, easy access to beaches and watersports. Food options and cost with non all inclusive is easy and does not have to be expensive at all in the islands listed above. Fairly easy to get around in all of the above with the exception of DR really, but there it would be an all inclusive resort and would only be leaving for organized tours more than likely.

Caymans would be on the upper end of any budget. Jamaica would be all inclusive also.

I'm not a big AI person, and the DR is mostly just that. Are they on a budget- or is Dad springing for this? <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Wink.gif" alt="" />
What activities are they looking for? Hiking, snorkeling, sailing/boating? Do they have specific ideas about what a Caribbean island should be?

If they speak any French, a French island would be great- St Barts, Les Saintes, etc. English islands like Anguilla? What about a sailing honeymoon?

Grenada! Hands down the safest, friendliest and "true Caribbean" island. Easy to get to through Miami or Dallas. Google it up and get a tour book. You'll be glad you did.

If they want to get away from it all I'd recommend they stay on the island of Culebra, which is not far off the east coast of PR. There's a villa on Flamenco Beach they could stay in, and Flamenco is probably among the top 10 beaches on earth.

All good suggestions so far, how about Anguilla? Great beaches, dining, easy access to SXM, English speaking, worthy of being in the mix.

I second Anguilla for a honeymoon. Great hotels and restaurants and beaches and very relaxing --- the locals are friendly and the overall vibe of the island is comfortable.

Another vote for Grenada; people are lovely & lots of things to explore including the Belmont Estate for chocolate, tour & lunch & the batik place in St. George where you can watch the fabric being painted, the Farmer's Market, & so much more.

February might call for warmer waters. We enjoyed Roatan.

In Dominica, Secret Bay has world class lodging on the hill overlooking two private bays. Many honeymooners come there seeking an unusual but private experience away from crowds and bustling cities. I host many on Sanctuary as day charter guests and know the staff, therefore, very well. They would not be disappointed. The food is amazing, served to your room, there is no restaurant!
St. Barths is amazing for lovers and sailors alike, but a lot more $$$$$
Congrats!
