Long Term Vacation Rentals

Long Term Vacation Rentals - 05/07/2014 02:39 PM

I've been wanting to find a one-bedroom apt. to rent for January, February & maybe March. Is it possible to find such a thing? Most places rent by the week; I was looking for property managers but not finding much luck along those lines. Maybe I should try the local newspapers? I don't care which island, or at least excepting the USVI's! Any suggestions for anyone?

Yes, monthly and/or seasonal apartment/condo/villa rentals can be found on just about every island in the Caribbean and they come in all different price ranges. Simply google" "Apartment (Condo) Rentals on NAME OF ISLAND". You'll find 100's if not 1000's of listings. Contact the owners/rental agents listed and ask for long term rates almost all offer lower rates for long term rentals.

Yes, I've tried that & thought I was doing something wrong because everything is weekly; have tried VBRO & Homeaway. I have friends/relatives in SXM & am putting the word out there. I guess it's just a matter of luck I guess. Just have to find the right people to contact. Florida is so much easier but not what I want.

January, February and March are high season. If someone can get a weekly rate, they probably won't discount for two months. And many who rent long term want a 6 month or year lease.

I'll say it again, contact the property manger/listing agents/owners for the properties on the islands you are considering and ask about long-term rental rates. Almost all of them will give you reduced rentals.

On the island where I live visitors rent condos and villas by the month, "for the season" (usually 3 to 4 months), for 6 months and for the year all the time. They ALWAYS pay something much less than the standard weekly rate. I have quite a few friends and acquaintances who do this every year on numerous islands.

I also have several friends that rent out their homes and I know they would definitely offer someone reduced rates if they rented long-term.

It is common practice but you'll rarely see long-term rates advertised on websites since those are geared town short-stay tourism. Hint, the longer the rental term, the better the rental rate will be.

OK, that's what I'm leaning towards I guess. I have a St. Maarten in-law looking & I have sent some feelers out to property managers in Antigua, hard to get to but reasonable rent. I am used to dealing 2-3 week rentals. Maybe I should buy!
