BVIYC now in USVI

This is great news for a lot of reasons. Looks like you can pick up any boat in the BVIYC fleet in USVI for a fee, or take one that is permanently based there with no fee.

This could make the ferry uncertainty less of an issue.

Hmmm...wonder if they're hiring office staff <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

Incremental, achievable changes in any industry challenge others to better their position, at least in the " free market" ideology.

Good on BVIYC for this move. Will be interesting to watch where it goes from here.

Bridget, it's so you, and in USVI working is very easy, no special papers. You could live on your boat at Compass Pt.

nice marina, locked gate at night, cable TV (Greg lived there), great wi-fi, probably about $750 a month plus WAPA.

Verrry interesting. I've thought about chartering from CYOA (and I appreciate Captain Jay's contributions here). But I'm pretty susceptible to motion sickness, and sailing the rough seas along the south coast of St. Thomas is something I'd rather avoid. From that perspective Compass Point Marina looks like a much more desirable starting location.

I have sailed from CYOA 4 times and never found the south coast a problem. Maybe we have been lucky with sea conditions. Sailed at different times of the year too.

I almost booked with BVIYC out of their new USVI base. They don't quite have the selection over there yet. 4 couples on a 41' cat seemed a little tight for us. It was going to be $500 per leg to have one of their other boats brought over. I really wanted it to work. I wound up booking with Conch. Wheels up in 366 days!

Good to know. We are considering chartering out of STT next time we wish to visit the BVIs as we feel it will save us a day and $$ on each end.

Getting all the way in to Compass Point in a monohull is not for the faint of heart. But a lovely marina.

I had my boat there for years. It was dredged years ago with brand new markers, probably 2012. Before the new markers, I did run aground in the middle of the channel. But it's soft mud and go off easy.

Haven't been in there for a while, but very narrow, and, as you pointed out, mud. I was thinking of people without a lot of experience when I said "not for the faint of heart".

Used to use VIP when they had sails.
Not that hard to make the channel with 5-6 feet draft, only issue with a cat will be the width!
Well stocked grocery very nearby, dink over or cab, would not walk.

the long entrance is 1/2 mile, walked it many times. Most times walking it, someone will pick you up.
