One Love / No Love

One Love / No Love - 07/11/2017 11:05 PM

Just finished BVI Cruise #7. Normally, I have lived by "If you dont have something nice to say....Dont say anything". This is the exception. The ladies at One Love Bar on White Bay JVD are downright RUDE. After giving them the 'benefit of a doubt' on previous trips...this last visit was the final straw for me and my Happy Go Lucky family of 5. No matter how hard we tried to be super friendly to them....they are just miserable people and Jerks to their customers. Its apparent that many feel the same way.....as their business was non-existent the 3 nights we were on anchor there this past Thurs, Fri & Sat. I used to Love One Love. A killer spot. But these ladies have ruined the Vibe there. We are done supporting Sedde until changes are made. Hopefully others do the same and he gets a Clue that friendly people are key to keeping his business alive.

We were there last week and they couldn't have been nicer. And they had a pretty good crowd. Go figure.

I find it interesting that after 7 cruises (and I assume you mean charters), you have only 1 post and that is a complaint. How about the rest of your trip? Not worth commenting on the wonderful things you hopefully saw? And why stay in the same place 3 nights if you didn't like the way you were treated? Something doesn't add up. Just sayin'.

I have had the exact same experience at One Love. The post was accurate.

Re: One Love / No Love - 07/12/2017 02:11 PM

I stand corrected.....we have been on 7 "Charters" in the BVI. And loved EVERY one of them. The place is Special !! I wasnt aware of this site until last week while in the BVI. After talking with several 'Locals' on JVD....they all were fully aware of the 'negative attitude' of the women at One Love. In fact.....the Locals told me about this site and urged me to write a review of One Love. They hoped it would be read by the appropriate people and 'Maybe' something would be done about the Rude treatment of guests there. Its just not the JVD way of life. Afterall....they said they live by the saying "One Love". Last reply I will make re the post above ....we stayed 3 nits on JVD out of our 14 day 'Charter' because we will never let a few rotten eggs affect our Love of the BVI !! :o))

As someone who has logged many an hour on a bar stool at One Love, I can assure you that any time the ladies there have been rude or ignored someone (at least in my presence), it is because the customer came up and didn't have any sort of greeting other than "I want", rather than a "hey, how's it going". Once that tone is set, you're likely to get a cold shoulder no matter how "super friendly" you try to be.

One Love is one of the most laid-back places on the planet and has a huge following of regulars. As for their non-existent evening business, they don't attempt to draw an evening crowd. They do dinners by request, if you reserve early enough in the day (so they can have staff on hand to cook and serve) but dinner is not their main business.

I can assure you that we are always very friendly and understand the Island customs. It was not returned the last time we were there.

Re: One Love / No Love - 07/12/2017 03:01 PM

Same with us GeorgeC1. We are not the problem. And One Love was 'dead' the entire 3 days we were there last week. So I have to believe others are done with the attitude as well.

Re: One Love / No Love - 07/12/2017 04:15 PM

We were beginning to think we were the only ones that felt that way. After our last visit, no more One Love for us..and that makes me sad because I really want to like it there.

Was there with my family last week and had the same experience. Woman behind the bar wouldn't acknowledge my daughter and myself after a very polite greeting to her. Never returned to One Love the rest of the trip.

It's heartbreaking when you finally get back to one of your favorite spots and it's not at all what you hoped for and remember it being. My husband and I were engaged in CGB 28 years ago and went back in May for a 25th wedding anniversary trip. Over the years, our favorite beach bar in the whole world was Stanley's Welcome Bar. Stanley and Cassandra were always so kind and made us feel welcome (always living up to the name!). This trip when we finally got to CGB for our last 3 days of our charter (we always save CGB for last because it's our favorite), we went first thing to Tony's and I tell you what - they could not have cared less if we were there or not. Bartender much more interested in what was happening on his phone than anything else. My husband tried to tell him that we were engaged there 28 years ago and pretty much got a blank stare. Waitress same thing. Tony was walking about but never interacted with any of the customers. Needless to say we moved on after our lunch there and never went back. We did enjoy the staff and vibe at Quito's this trip along with Paradise Club (surprisingly) and had nice breakfasts at Rhymer's - always enjoy the ladies there. Also, we have been back since Stanley's turned into Tony's so I wasn't expecting the exact same Stanley's as back in the tire swing and steel drum days. I know that things change and evolve but I wasn't exaggerating in my first sentence when I said that it was heartbreaking.

28 years ago, Cane Garden Bay was not regularly inundated by hordes of carted-in cruise ship passengers.

[Linked Image]

Catering to the masses in hundreds of beach chairs is not conducive to an atmosphere of personal service. When we visited from 1995-2005, CGB was laid-back and great. On every charter since, we have sailed on by and aimed for places cruise ship crowds can't or won't get to. Sad, but it is what it is.

I was born on St. Thomas in 1979. Wow, how things have changed. The world population keeps growing, but the number of islands stays the same... Last year I stood in LINE for an hour to take a group of first timers through The Baths. I love the VI's but am exploring more remote destinations in order to avoid the crowds.

I've experienced the attitude of many businesses in the VI's decline as they adjust to serving crowds and dealing with the types of people that come with them. One Love, unfortunately, was one of them.

Is Seddy even lurking around there any more?

We've had both good and bad experiences at One Love....it has never really been the same since Raquel left....

Saw Seddy around the forth. Said hello, got a stare.

Seddy is there a lot, but you never know which Seddy you're gonna get <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Yikes.gif" alt="" />

if servers in the U.S. behaved like the BVI servers you would be out of business. As I tell my servers, if you want to be in a bad mood, get a job at a Doctor's office, not a restaurant.

Honeymoon 26 yrs ago - last trip this past April, coming into Diamond Cay last ball, motor yacht that was at least 1/4 mile behind barrels thru and cuts right in front of me to take it. No not the same...but dropped the hook, made a b line to the B-Line and found a new sliver of happiness. Still: "Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got til its gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot"

Exactly. .Raquel rocked it.

We went there right after she left and Seddy didn't seem to care that she left, but he was bitching that she left a window open and it rained and got his bed wet <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" />

Re: One Love / No Love - 07/19/2017 01:02 AM

Got "out-powered" three times in two weeks. I found a certain satisfaction when the speedy gonzolese's couldn't bake off their adrenaline and try to hook a ball. This one 392 powercat going into Great Bay was the best. There are MANY open balls, but this guy wanted the one 15 feet from us approaching. Backed over the pennant 6 times, over shot the ball by over 30 feet. and the most amazing part...

He was flying a Canadian flag

Why is it amazing he was flying a Canadian flag. Oh. Now I got it.

Truth. I visit JVD land-based a lot, and he's gotten less and less of my business. frown It used to be my favorite spot to park in a lounge chair under the sea grape tree and give them my business all day long ... it's been a few years since I've done that.

Re: One Love / No Love - 08/21/2017 03:21 PM

Seddy's is the only bar in the world I'm barred from.
Apparently it was MY fault Raquel left the island, nothing to do with his behaviour.

Re: One Love / No Love - 08/21/2017 04:07 PM

Now that's funny..but not so funny when you experience what's happened there. I agree..the last few times I've dropped by I felt like I was intruding..I bought a cold one and hustled back up the beach. Its a shame Seddy has let this happen. He needs to get back behind the bar..do a few of his magic tricks..and bring some magic back to the place.

Wow! My husband and I just came back from Provincetown during Carnival Week. Herring Cove Beach wasn't anywhere near that crowded. Looks nothing like our trip to VG in August, 2008 when there was almost no one on the beaches or Tortola in August 1991. I wouldn't go near a beach that crowded!

Re: One Love / No Love - 08/27/2017 07:56 PM

Keep in mind the fact that this is Cane Garden Bay on a cruise ship day....and it only lasts for a few hours....this is NOT typical of beaches in the BVI on a daily basis by ANY means.

When you can literally see a packed out White Bay atop Belmont Point....you avoid JVD that day. So sad that the beaches there get that crowded.

If you time it correctly, it's still a nice place to be....before 11 and after 3...... <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Wink.gif" alt="" />
