Cape Air to JetBlue in SJ

Cape Air to JetBlue in SJ - 04/05/2022 12:51 AM

We will arrive from VG to San Juan on Cape Air and then have a separate ticket flight from SJ to JFK……Do we have to exit and go back thru security or can we just go from our arrival/Customs directly to our Jet Blue gate? Thanks!

If you do not have checked bags go directly to JetBlue. Check in online. If you have checked bags you will have to claim them and exit the secure area to recheck them.

No…only have carry on…so can go directly to the JetBlue gate without exiting and having to go thru security…

I dunno. My niece did this last month. Arrived on Cape Air (with carry-on) and tried to connect to Jet Blue without leaving secured area, which she had done in the past. Airport personnel told her it was no longer possible. The hallway was now blocked and limited to airport staff. YMMV.

I don't think that's accurate. Whether you have checked bags or not, upon entry into the US, one is funneled through Customs and irrespective of whether you have to retrieve a bag off of the belt or are just carrying one (or none), you haven't been screened in VG (like passengers from other small non-US foreign airports). Once you've cleared Customs, with or without fetching a bag off of the belt, you have to go through a TSA security checkpoint.

I was thinking about it as a arrival from the US. Since you go to customs you will have to clear security. They have however a connecting flight route that avoids going completely outside. It’s not as quick as the old setup but we made it in about 10 minutes last time. Have your JetBlue boarding pass handy to show on your phone. Basically all it does is avoid needing to show portal documents for Puerto Rico.

This was our exact experience last November.

The PR portal is no longer. The experience is back to pre-pandemic. After immigration/customs, you follow the signs and end up back by the ticket counters where security is located. TSA helps dramatically here. I went thru on a Tuesday morning; TSA-precheck line was 5 minutes; general security was probably 45 minutes.

Just did it yesterday…yes, you have to go back out and go to the security line…all other ways are blocked off…..
