What the previous poster said... When we go I also bring along clothing appropriate for going to Grand Case for dinner and shopping in Phillipsburg: two pairs of permanent press wash and wear kakhi slacks and three permanent press wash and wear short sleeved collared sport shirts (buttons all the way down, not pull-overs). I also bring several sets of underware and socks. All those can be hand washed and left out to dry either in the shower or outside on our mini-suite patio while we are at the beach. My wife usually brings two or three wash and wear sundresses for the dinner and/or shopping trips.

There is no need for sport coats or ties on this trip... My wife brings one sweater in case it gets a little cool in the evening.

Our general rule for packing to go to SXM is "bring half the clothes and twice the money" that you think you will need.

Also bring spray cans of Deep Woods Off to spray your legs from the knees down no later than 3pm each day to ward the the sand fleas... If you wonder why, just read "Don't stop the carnival" by Herman Wouk...

Adding on ...
plug adapter if staying on the french side
power bar to plug in more than one electronic device
Kitchen knife, even if you only use it for cheese and crackers
Cooler bag for beach lunches - either take freezer packs or use frozen water bottles
Don't forget your sense of humour

Re: Packing List - 12/27/2016 01:35 PM

Good advice from everyone. All the units at Club Orient have both 115-125 volt US style outlets AND 230-250 volt French style outlets...BUT not a lot of either so the power strip is very important for charging your phones, tablets, etc. Both voltages are at the US standard frequency of 60 Hz. Club O is "off the grid" and generates its own electricity with multiple BIG generators and they do not suffer the frequent outage problems that plague the island, especially the Dutch side.

Definitely bring a US style two prong to three prong adaptor or two along with your power bars in case the 125 volt outlet you want to plug into does not have a hole for the ground pin.

One thing you don"t have to pack is a swimsuit. The lounge chairs at Club Orient aren't the most comfortable, so we take chair pads. We also take (believe it or not <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />) a small folding table for our drinks - keeps sand out of them. And also some of those laundry "bubbles" for the machines. You mentioned casual clothes for when you leave the resort - nice but not formal would work.

Thanks all. We're not staying at Club O but there was a thread link under that topic to a "packing list". When I clicked on the thread link to the "packing list" link I don't get anything. Sorry for not making myself clear. Looking for some of the general packing lists some members had posted.

Re: Packing List - 12/27/2016 08:18 PM

Things we always bring:

Coffee, Equal and sugar to get us started
1-can of favorite tuna fish jic.......
Different size zip lock bags - great for drippy sunscreen bottles among other uses
A night light
Sun screen
Small flashlight
Kindle/iPad and chargers
At least one sweater for evenings in air conditioned settings
Any medications we need
Collapsible cooler (or use it as a carry-on)

Our next trip is going to be a quick and short one but I will still bring all these things and we are doing carry-ons only.

we also add a small pair of binoculars. From our balcony we can watch the sail boats out on the ocean & the iguanas in the trees on the other side of the road (hoping they will stay over there).

As little as possible always seems to much, but what I love to bring is a LED plug in night light that doubles as charger for mi iPhone. You get two for 1 out of device. Got tired of banging shin on cut down bed post trying to find way back and forth to bathroom in dark and have exta port to charge phone/ iPad.

What is a sand bottle holder - I expect as described - a holder for your drink in the sand...sounds like something we would like to have. Can you buy here? How big are they?
