Best hotels for airplane landings view - 04/26/2017 10:36 PM

What is the best hotel to watch planes land and the ocean from your balcony. Is it the sonesta maho? If one were to book there or other good hotels nearby what would you request in terms of buildings, floors, views to get a good view of the planes and/or ocean?

Not from your balcony, as the rooms have a porch, not a balcony, and it's on the ocean side, so no view of the planes from your porch, but I love Beachside Villas for airplane watching. You can sit by the pool and watch planes take off to your heart's content, as well as watch them taxi. As far as view of the ocean, can't beat the view from Beachside!!

Your mileage may vary..

As I recall, there is a observation deck at Mary's Boon where you may watch planes arriving and departing and of course the beach is steps away.

Royal Islander you can see them coming in over the water and as far as crossing the road by SSBG. Sonesta in Maho would be about the same if you were on the right side. Maybe a bit better because it's juts out a bit further on the point.

Sonesta Maho had a great view, but you have to get the right side of the hotel like RicknGrace said. We spent our afternoons trying to be the first to spot a new plane coming in. Also, it seemed like we had the pool to ourselves since it was separate from the pool bar area. I don't remember if we were able to watch the actual landing of planes, but we could definitely watch the approach. It was great fun.

We spent a few afternoons up on that deck with our lunch and a bottle of wine watching the planes fly in. Had the place to ourselves. The trees were starting to grow and obstruct the view a few years ago. Have not been there since, we love Mary's Boon.

Mary's Boon has two decks to watch the planes. One which is one floor high and another one which is 2 floors high. The top one has a full view of the airport and runway with beach view on the other side. Really pretty, very friendly folks, go check it out.

Have you been on the Observation deck recently because last time we stayed at Mary's Boon the trees had grown and blocked the view of plane arrivals. You could not get a good view of the planes landing, only departing. For the first several years we stayed there his routine was to go up to the deck with drink in hand and watch but the last two visits there views were obstructed. It has been more than several years since we stayed there so that is why I'm asking if you have been there recently to view? Thanks for reply.

We have a very good view of plane departure from pool deck of Beachside Villa's.

If you are on Simpson Bay beach you get a very nice view of planes taking off overhead.

La Terrasse in Maho has rooms overlooking the runway.

We were just at Mary's Boon a few weeks ago and tried both of their observation decks. Both were obstructed by tall trees even the upper deck. Landings were the most affected as the tree was right in front of the critical point of touchdown.

The takeoffs were pretty good though with :Nose up: right in front of the observation deck.

Sonesta Ocean Point has some excellent vantage points of the landings.

Marys Boon has 2 decks. The lower one the trees do block part of the view. If you go up the other steps from the lower deck to the higher one its very high and has a full view of the airport. We are there at least twice a year....love it!

Here's one that has not been mentioned. (Carol and Louise BSV, Bobcat Mary's Boone) I went to with my BSV friends to check out the HH. WELL, you have to see the planes fly over your head from the end of the runway at Dinghy Dock on airport road! It is WILD! You are at the end of the runway and they launch over head at "mach speed"!!! Great photo opp!!! October for sure I'll have my camera with me!

Royal Islander La Plage. I prefer the (2) side which is next to the sonesta Maho and higher up e.g. room 5208 or 4208.

Thanks all for your responses. We've toured BSV and I do like the idea of them landing
/taxiing in my back yard and thanks for the tips on other places including the room #'s at royal islander Laplace from BlackMercedes as that was more to what I was after Bldg's/floors/rooms. I will go to the dinghy dock as well Colour to get buzzed (by the planes)

Agree with Candu. It is La Terrasse, all the way. No other hotel has the view of the take-offs and landings.
