Where is this and what was this place before it closed?
Yes, correct - it is the remains of the Copper Mine on Virgin Gorda, BVI. You are up!
Probably an easy one for some on here.
D&H Sunshine Villas Anegada
You were on the top of my list to get this one! Yer next!
Thanks Chris. You live in SC now?
I am seriously running out of pics. This should be pretty easy. Where am I?
Yeah, that was too easy. You're up Adrian!
Where am I ?
Hmm... could this be Marina Cay in the BVI?
Marina Cay it is! Dining under the tent post-Irma May 2019. Zanshin, your turn.
Zanshin, funny I was looking at your blog. May 8, 2017 you entered North Sound and we left North Sound that morning for Anegada.
ndfaninnc, Zanshin correctly got the right answer with Marina Cay.
ndfaninnc, Zanshin correctly got the right answer with Marina Cay.
I swear his answer was not there when I answered. Incorrectly I might add. Now it shows Zanshin answered an hour and a half before I did.

Fred, thanks. But no. Total [censored] move. I realized Adrian’s pic was the last post on the page. Zanshin’s guess was on the next page. While looking at the enlarged version of Adrian’s pic I was so sure I was right (I was not), I did not see there was another page. So, total [censored] move.
I see I guessed it correctly after all

Here's my next picture, the first in a smaller series if the clues aren't enough:
The kiln in the first image was used to make some of the items in this picture
A lot of vegetation, but I don't see palm types so I'm guessing Europe and it looks like a prison.
This wasn't a prison. Here's the next picture, taken from the same location as the previous one, but looking outward this time:
This place gets less rain than Ireland. I spent a long time living in Dublin and needed months after leaving to dry out
Just 2 Postcodes in a 100-mile circumference of this location.
Each image is more revealing... The previous images were taken from the flat structure seen in this one...
Now I see tropical vegetation so I guess it's the Caribbean. Martinique?
Darn - I thought I could post some of my best pictures of Brimstone on St. Kitts & Nevis before someone guessed it, but Fran has gotten it already! The site, part of the Unesco World Heritage, is worth visiting.
I meant your postcode in Dublin
Yes, I agree, a very interesting location to visit. I would have liked to see more of your photos. That long, walk up the hill gave it away for me. The last time I was there was several years ago and some of those buildings near the parking area did not exist at that time. I've been busy today but will look for a photo in a little while.
OK, this might be easier for some than others.
Not the kings mountain I know. I’m stumped. Will wait for more info.
No Fred, not Kings Mountain. This can be found nearby.
Sleepychef - I lived in the Beggar's Bush area close to the docks while in Dublin (unfortunately, not in the really gentrified area but in the working class neighborhood where my accent (or lack of it) really stood out). I had planned on doing a James Joyce and testing Guinness at a different pub each night, but early on went into a small local pub filled with fisherman and factory workers. They went silent when I walked in and I got some pointed looks when I ordered a pint and it became clear that I wasn't a local. I wasn't close to the door and was debating how I would get out without losing too much blood when I hit upon a plan and loudly ordered a round. That worked and it also turned out that their Guinness was really good and far cheaper than in the pubs downtown, so it became my "local" as well. But man, do the Irish love to argue! I had many an argument there, often having to switch sides because.... well, just because.
This is also in the area. Now off to work, will be back later.
Hi Zanshin ,
Buying a round for a pub in Ireland...instant legend status
No idea at all. I'll try narrowing it down... Europe
No Mike, not in Europe. This is a US location so I guess this isn't really fair to you guys from across the pond although some may have visited including one Englishman during the action.
Hint, the trees on the far ridge are about 1 mile away. Approximately 12,500 men tried to cross this space while 150 cannons and thousands of rifles fired on them from that ridge. Only a handful made it, 6000 never returned to the starting point.
Yes, but what are famous (at least un US history)area we looking at?
Not sure what your looking for.
Close. Further to the west and slightly south. A famous,(or infamous) event happened here. The name of the event will do.
One event in Gettysburg could have been an address by Abe Lincoln
No Fred, not that, this was battle related. It was the turning point that ended the three day battle and a rare tactical blunder ordered by Lee.
Bingo! We have a winner.
Yes, this is the actual fields that these men were ordered to cross. The first photo was from the starting point. Their objective was the trees on the ridge. The attack was hampered by fences and gullies. Whether their cause was just or not, one cannot doubt the courage it took for those men to make this charge knowing full well they had little chance to make it and a great chance to die violently, as many did.
If I win again I promise to try and find photos more worldly so all have a chance.
OK, xrayman, if you have a picture, go ahead. I don't think Fran really specified what he was going for.
Thanks Carol! Name that bridge!
If I win again I promise to try and find photos more worldly so all have a chance.
Don't worry about that Fran. I'm taking part in this in the hope of discovering new places. I've already learnt of Cinque Terre in Italy that I never knew about despite having been very close to it in the past.
That makes two of us Mike. I have found this game to be very educational and fun. Oh, and yes, Carol was the winner.
There certainly have been a bunch of really interesting pictures posted! The only problem at this point is that most of us, like me, have basically run out of pictures. Perhaps we need to think about a new series. Something like, here's my favorite place in the world and here's why? Thoughts?
Ellen is correct with Rialto!
So to be fair I see that bridge every day. At work we put up travel cams from all over the world since we are not going anywhere. That bridge is one of them.
So location on this one.
As everyone has said running out of pictures someone will know this one quickly.
I’m open to whatever the game morphs into!
Looks John Lennon related and I'll guess NYC?
Fred is correct with John Lennon and NYC. Anyone get any closer than NYC?
Ellen, you mean like the Dakota where he lived?
No I was wondering if anyone knew where the memorial was?
And it is not in front of the Dakota.
I am getting on a flight so declaring Fred the winner.
Imagine circle is in Central Park in an area they call Strawberry Fields.
Fred you are up!
Ellen, have a nice trip and I don't envy anyone travelling now. As far as this game goes, I really enjoy it and don't know we could have something similar without pictures. I'll keep scrounging along for pics as long as I can, but TomB will be back soon and he probably can post for a long time and just let us guess.
Anyway, here goes one I dredged up.
Pure guess... Cape Cod.
I've got loads more photos now I'm back in the UK with my archive to hand. Most will be hard to identify but I'm happy to keep posting while people are interested.
Mike, not Cape Cod but right country. I'm sure you have lots of photos so when some of us are out, you and Tom can keep this going. It's a fun way to "travel" in these times.
The place in my first picture is within 45 miles from the bridge in this picture. Hopefully, this will get everyone in the right vicinity.
OK, looks to be the Golden Gate Bridge??
Yes, that's the GG Bridge so now we know the correct coast of the US. Now where is picture 1?
This place is now the site of a hostel by the same name - a name that includes the name of a bird as the first word.
Adrian, you got it and that means you are up.
Where in the world?
Looks Mediterranean to me?
Looks like the Caribbean to me, maybe one of the ABC islands
That cruise ship appears to be leaving and from the vantage point of the picture, it appears to have been taken from a cruise ship. Just me guessing
Fred is in the correct area and this photo was from a cruise ship leaving port.
Only a guess, but I think you have been to Messina?
Only a guess, but I think you have been to Messina?
Correct country, but north of Messina.
Fran is correct. Port of Naples. You're up Fran!
Let's try this...
Close up of the structure in the previous photo
I'm really curious now, in the first image I thought that this structure might have been a communal oven for baking bread, but the close-up doesn't look like an oven at all - I'm looking forward to seeing what this place is
2 more views from the original location but in different directions.

Somewhere around the Yucatan?
Right general area. Photos were taken from atop this...
This can be found near by as well as many other Mayan ruins.
You got it Adrian. Most people seem to see Coz as just a cruise stop or a party place with bars and resorts etc but there's a more to it, just gotta look.
You are up.
Where am I?
Fran is correct! The photo was taken at Lindbergh Bay.
Easy one here...
Pretty sure I know it, but I don't have any pictures to post!
Beerman--I think you're close but not exactly correct.
Easy Peasy - St. Maarten - Philipsburg
Zanshin--and technically that is Great Bay, not Simpson Bay, as Beerman guessed.
Yeah, I knew it would be too easy. It is Philipsburg or Great Bay. Since Carol stated she has no photos then Zanshin wins. Sorry Beerman, close but no cigar.
Fran--Philipsburg is ON Great Bay, so both are correct. Simpson Bay is not...
I have another small set of images, each more revealing than the previous one. But perhaps someone will guess this waterfall's location straight off the bat:
Fran--Philipsburg is ON Great Bay, so both are correct. Simpson Bay is not...

Yes, I know, that's why I said Philipsburg OR Great Bay, meaning both were correct.
I have so many waterfall pictures from Dominica and almost used one of them for this thread - but chose to use a different one... This waterfall is not on Dominica
OK, if not Dominica, Jamaica?
It seems that I couldn't edit the previous post and add an image, so I'll do it here:
Fred - I must admit that I don't understand your post - but that most likely implies that your guess is incorrect...
Zanshin, the road to Hans is On Maui, Hawaii so I thought it might be there.
Neither Maui nor Costa Rica (and once you get the actual island or country you'll have to identify the river or water as well)
Actually, this scene could be a stones throw from where I live. However, I'll assume the body of water has some major significance so I'll go with the Shenandoah in the USA.
Just guessing now, Grenada?
How about Pacific NW, like Vancouver Island?
I believe Google is OK now so Guadeloupe? Grand Carbet
Fred - you are correct, it is part of the national park on Basse Terre on Gaudeloupe.
Merry Christmas!
Here is one I dredged up and Merry Christmas to everyone.
Merry Christmas all!
Don't know where that is Fred but it's certainly cool.
Don't know where that is Fred but it's certainly cool.
I thought
exactly the same thing.
Dan
by the dress of the two men in the background - I am going with Puerto Rico
Snowing in Virginia
on Christmas!
Hey Tom, it's colder in St Augustine FL than it is in Burlington VT. How odd is that???
Tom, not PR. Got about 3 inches of snow here and first white Christmas in a long time.
Here is another picture
Havana? and unfortunately no snow on Anegada
Yes Sleepy, did you recognize this building? I hope I didn't leave in a flag or a sign. I'm not a fan of cold weather so I wish I was on Anegada. Anyway, you are up.
I miss the snow Fred and it was just a guess leading from the Puerto Rico guess.
Just to find the right part of the world - Greece?
no but this place has been guessed before in the games
I think it might be France and Beziers.
as in Popeye the sailor man
I recall Lucca (or something like that) on olive oil labels from Italy. I'm just guessing from the Popeye hint.
we have a winner Mdina , Malta
you are up EllenS
Peter or Ellen, please explain the Popeye hint and Malta? It went over my head.
I think that this is what was being referred to
Popeye Village
The only thing I could think of was the film French Connection set in part in Marseille and the character Popeye Doyle. Sort of looked as though it could be Marseille.
TomB who started the games put up Popeyes village where the movie Popeye was filmed for Malta sorry just a random clue.
here is that special village in Malta (posted on an earlier thread)
I really love that picture.
Where am I? And wish I was able to go to again?
Hmm... as a German I recognize both the beer brand and part of the band name with "Allgäu". But I am fairly certain that this is not one of the beer brands allowed to make a "tent" at the Wies'n (Oktoberfest) but without resorting to Mr. Google I'm not absolutely certain, so my only guess would be the Oktoberfest in München (only 300Km from my current curfewed location in Bavaria) but I have to admit that I'm not sanguine about my guessing this correctly since I recall that only 6 breweries are allowed and I can think of 4-5 of them...
Munich? (and Octoberfest)
It is in Germany and it is for Oktoberfest, but it is not in Munich. It is another similar celebration in a different part of Germany.
The sigh in the back says Furstenberg?
That is also a beer I believe and not the name of this town.
If you like cars you might find yourself visitng this city.
OK, so Porsche and Mercedes Benz fans must be taking the day off of the game.
Second biggest beer festival in the world, goes by the name Cannstatter Volksfest. (that's where I was).
Neckar River
Schlossgarten and Wilhelma Zoo
Any idea on the city yet?
Sleepy chef wins. Stuttgart is the city. I can recommend that if you have a hankering for an Oktoberfest to go there. Much less touristy and a more local feel.
And if you like cars, museums are good too.
Ellen
somewhere short
Umm.. I don't know about the others, but I find this picture is particularly lacking in __any__ features that might make it distinct...
another clue then
Somewhere in India like Goa?
we have a winner next pic was going to be.
you are up Fred
It was the Kingfisher beer that led me to India and Goa was a wild guess. You won't find this on the menu just anywhere, but it was on the menu here and on my plate.
That may be the most unattractive plate of food I've seen since I had cow's lung and some small spherical objects served up to me on one occasion. I'm going to guess it may be somewhere like Sweden.
Is that a bird head? Eww. I'm going Phillipines.
Not Sweden, Iceland or Philippines and not a bird head. Mike, how did someone get you to order cow lung?
Isn't that half a goats head? Morocco? I think I saw that on one of those travel shows but can't recall where.
Not Sweden, Iceland or Philippines and not a bird head. Mike, how did someone get you to order cow lung?
I was in Kuala Lumpur on business and mistakenly said to the locals... Take us to where you would eat lunch so we can have some traditional food. Only did that once!!!
Fran, not Morocco and not a goat - but close relative.
it looks like the Sheeps head I had it in Iceland so maybe Norway?
Peter, you got the animal but a long, long way SSE from Norway.
This should help
jphart, you are correct and you are up.
Did not know from the food choice! But the Olympic stadium was easy as I’ve been there. LOL let me hunt up a picture
Have you been here?
Name it for extra credit
Been to the area and know of this but since I don't have any photos I'll let someone else go for it.
The markers are individualized and thus unique, good story behind them. Zoom in a bit for detail
Xrayman, I thought you’d get this one!
Looks like the Florida Keys.
I recognized what the markers were, but have no idea where.
Toilet Seat CutIs off of Plantation Key just before Islamorada in the Florida Keys
No idea where the photo is but it is giving me flashbacks of trying to sail between the lobster pots in Maine!!!!!
Seems like Adrian was correct with Florida Keys.
Sorry, didn't see that. If anyone would like to post a photo, go ahead. If not, I'll try to find one tomorrow.
Happy New Year to everyone. Here's what I suspect will be an easy one to get it started...
Is that the Cutty Sark? I thought she was landlocked?
No, not old Ironsides. I have got a few photos of USS Constitution which I was thinking of using.. I'm actually hoping to get the town name as I can't remember the name of the ship! First clue... it is a long way from me and nearer to Fran than jphart (if both your ttol locations are correct)
Further clue... Same State as USS Constitution.
I had also thought of Mystic Seaport in Conn. OK, so we're talking Mass. Hmmm, I know there's a seaport museum in Bedford but I imagine there are others.
Mayflower? Are you in Plymouth?
The only other place I can think of with a maritime history that might have a ship like that is Gloucester.
Close but this place is more known for Witches and things like that.
A winner. You're next Adrian...
Where am I?
Conflicting clues but I'll guess St. Kitts?
Fred is correct. The photo was taken on St. Kitts at Cockleshell Bay looking at Nevis.
Here you go
Fran, not Bahamas
Not Cancun, but closer than Bahamas
Oh well, since no one else has chimed in, another guess Tulum?
Fran, not Tulum. Here is another picture clue.
That looks like a Mexican ferry in the center right, Isla Mujeres?
I figured I would leave something like a sign or something. Good catch on the ferry Fran and Isla Mujeres is correct. Fran is up.
Fran, isn’t that the ferry that goes between Porto to Cozumel?
Could have the spelling wrong on Porto, not sure
It looks the same as the ferry at Coz, that's what made me think of Mexico.
Arriving Isla Mujeres from Gran Puerto, Cancun
This will be an easy one for someone here.
I know Pittsburg has one of these but I’ve never been so guessing.
No idea here, but whoever gets it right, please start a new thread..
Good Guess Ellen, I knew this would be too easy, it is Pittsburg. You're up.
Pittsburgh....with an h
Great view of the city from the restaurant on top.
Yeah, left off the h. My bad.
