They will be taking recycled glass and maybe more from Tortola, Jost van Dyke, and Virgin Gorda! http://www.bvibeacon.com/1/index.php/news-articles-2/1547-featured-articles/9747-the-glass-lady

I believe that glass operation has been working for a while. The equipment was originally over on Tortola near Slaney and moved to VG. What is new is the DWM cooperation.

Kudos to Ms. Swartz! If she can, as she hopes, add metals and plastics to the glass that she is recycling now, it will be a great step forward for the islands.

Metals and plastic recycling plants require immense machinery, unbelievable supply of fresh water, and are appropriate for lots of volume. You don't want that on your island.

Sorting and shipping facilities are definitely more approachable for these tiny communities. Now, getting the waste sent elsewhere is another story

The number one approach would be reusable water containers and a ban on individual plastic bottles.

Getting the locals off of the takeaway container lunch habit would be a pretty good idea as well.

Those styrofoam take-away containers could easily be swapped for cardboard, I would suggest.

They make those containers out of soy now..actually edible and dissolve in water..that's what we have in most of California now..
