Re: New Q Info from 284 Media - 04/23/2021 03:38 PM

I just received the email from the from Virgin Charters - they manage our PowerCat. Looks credible

I wonder what the policy is for minors - age 13 - not vaccinated.

I was thinking the same thing, as we have 5 kids under 16 on our June trip. None will be vaccinated, but all adults will.

Same situation, granddaughter age 11. Hope they add some guidance for children.

So, I guess we'll still need a test to get back into the U.S.?

Does anyone know about this in respect to kids under 16? We have a June trip planned with 5 under 16 so they cant get vaccinated. All the parents are vaccinated.

Re: New Q Info from 284 Media - 04/23/2021 05:12 PM

US still requires neg PCR to travel back into country.

So from 4 test and 4 days of quarantine to 3 test and 24hrs quarantine.

Getting better all the time.

JUST changed my trip to leave a day later now!
I will be curious to see if you still have the 175.00 fee and have to wear the tracker.

Re: New Q Info from 284 Media - 04/23/2021 05:33 PM

Lisa - hmmm...probably.

I am waiting for June ferries on Sundays to expand - so far there is nothing on the day we arrive!

Re: New Q Info from 284 Media - 04/23/2021 05:35 PM

Fwiw we did not get anything wearable, only one non functional tracker for the two of us, and plastic wrist bands that we removed when released from quarantine.I wouldn't worry about it. They may well be slow to drop the fee.

Re: New Q Info from 284 Media - 04/23/2021 05:42 PM

Same proverbial boat. We will be 7 total. 1 under 16 who will have received first dose (she turns 16 five days before trip).

Re: New Q Info from 284 Media - 04/23/2021 06:48 PM

that sucks as a sweet 16...just told my daughter and her friend they need to get vaccinated this week and then last week of May (30 day Moderna) or they were out. Withdrew my dad of the year nomination which truthfully my daughter withdrew 10 years ago when she became a teenager...

Me too! We are supposed to be on island May 17 to start our bareboat with Sunsail. We are prepared to quarantine, but we're both fully vaccinated, so hoping for the best!

Re: New Q Info from 284 Media - 04/23/2021 08:53 PM

Gosh we'll now have 4 more non-Q days for our July trip. That gives us some serious time for extended stays at places like Anegada and Leverick Bay.

Re: New Q Info from 284 Media - 04/23/2021 09:32 PM

Same here, we have kids on our July charter. Do they get 'a pass' if parents are vaccinated?

Re: New Q Info from 284 Media - 04/23/2021 10:00 PM

That would surprise me...it is a bummer because May is usually my college kids trip...
Posted By: GeorgeC1

Re: New Q Info from 284 Media - 04/23/2021 10:21 PM

College kids should be able to get the J&J in time for a May trip.
Posted By: bailau

Re: New Q Info from 284 Media - 04/23/2021 10:30 PM

agree...the 2 we have can be on the moderna (month) or pfizer (3 week) path...but as I told them its not my problem.

i just didn't want the usual May trip with 8 kids from 6 different colleges tripping the day 0 or day 4 test...as you know Covid is more widespread among the younger people now. So cut it down to my daughter and her friend.

Grateful to only have 1st world problems in all this. My friends at Moorings base camp still don't have their jobs back

Re: New Q Info from 284 Media - 04/23/2021 10:33 PM

The last piece of the puzzle needs to include private boats and charters from USVI. We switched 2 trips this summer to USVI and are now hoping we can clear customs with the still valid COVID test we used to get to the USVI along with the extra test checking in through customs.

Re: New Q Info from 284 Media - 04/23/2021 10:38 PM

BVI needs to get rid of quarantine altogether including the $175 fee and the costs of special taxis and ferries.

How will this effect cruise ship passengers.....

Agree 100%! Not going until they get reasonable about this.

Re: New Q Info from 284 Media - 04/24/2021 06:21 PM

It appears from what we have been able to find out at this moment that if anyone on a boat is unvaccinated the entire boat has to maintain the unvaccinated protocols. This includes children.

I guess Bailau is correct! Kids are over-rated

Re: New Q Info from 284 Media - 04/25/2021 06:53 PM

"Puzzle" is the correct adjective. My crew and I(four vaccinated adults) are scheduled to arrive at STT on 5/17 for a 10 day charter with CYOA. We were planning to take advantage of the USVI accepting positive antibody tests within four months of arrival (and have already done that test) and would use that for entering the USVI. With the new BVI protocols we would love to spend several days around St John and then the rest of the time in the BVI before returning to St Thomas. Looks like we would need to get a PCR either the day before leaving the US or when arriving at the USVI and assuming that our PCR is negative we could probably go to JVD to go through customs and get a day 0 PCR. Assuming that test is negative we would be good to sail the BVI until right before returning to the USVI when we would need another PCR in the BVI that would get us into the USVI and the USA unless the antibodies test would still work. Am I close?

Re: New Q Info from 284 Media - 04/25/2021 07:23 PM

You might ask this on the FB BVI Abroad page. I thought sea entry was only by ferry at Road Town. Perhaps changes have been announced that I missed.

Re: New Q Info from 284 Media - 04/25/2021 07:56 PM

Sea entry and testing only at Road Town for the time being. Sea arrivals only by ferry at this point in time (one per day right now).

Re: New Q Info from 284 Media - 04/26/2021 04:07 PM

Thanks for the two responses. That appears to be the BVI position at this point. Hard to understand the rationale behind it. If we are vaccinated and pass an antibody test upon arriving at the USVI and then spend a "quarantine amount of time" on board in the USVI, the likelihood of us being contagious with COVID would seem to be very slim. I guess it is just "wait until next year".

Re: New Q Info from 284 Media - 04/26/2021 04:13 PM

The BVI does not recognize the quick test, only PCR. They are limited in the number of tests they can do a day in their one lab (on Tortola). So tests on other islands need to be ferried to Tortola, and capacity is limited.

Re: New Q Info from 284 Media - 04/27/2021 01:37 PM

Hello, so I contact the USVI and told me that if you are vaccinated you'll have to be in quarantine for about two days. Me and my wife are thinking to visit the islands during August. Are they gonna be vaccinated there too? Does anyone know about the regulations there, because a friend of mine told me that they are wearing their masks everywhere.

Re: New Q Info from 284 Media - 04/27/2021 01:42 PM

There is no quarantine in the USVI. You need a negative test in the 5 days prior to arrival. Masks were used pretty much everywhere when I was there last month.

Re: New Q Info from 284 Media - 04/28/2021 07:12 PM

Hi Laura,
I'm emailing you the response and attachment I received from the Covid -rapid response team based on my inquiry this morning.
It has all the locations for testing in the BVI's and the form you need to complete in order to attain an appointment.

Re: New Q Info from 284 Media - 04/28/2021 07:18 PM

I just got an email from Scrub Island stating that fully vaccinated travelers to the resort only need a PCR test within 5 days of travel and satisfactory evidence of full vaccination and the 4th day test wll be waived. Fully vaccinated persons will be quarantined upon arrival until a negative test result is received from the BVI Health Services Authority (24-48 hours).

All this as of May 15th!
