RESTAURANT SUGGESTIONS--WE ARE PERPLEXED - 04/01/2022 03:10 PM

Just discovered this great site for current information on the BVI, have read all the relevant posts, and would appreciate some suggestions on our proposed dinner plans.
My wife and I have chartered a Powercat from MaxMarine starting April 23 for ten nights and plan to eat (and imbibe in adult beverages) ashore each night. While our last cruise through the islands, five years ago, allowed us to plan a sailing itinerary and best snorkeling spots; we realize that the restaurants we chose then might not be the best ones to choose now.
Here are our current restaurant thoughts and would appreciate any comments
Night 1: Arrive at MaxMarine and spend first night at Marina. Dinner: Whatever is available there.
Night 2: Norman Island. Dinner: Either Willy’s or Pirates Bight, depending on our mood.
Night 3 & 4: Jost Van Dyke. One dinner at Hendo’s and one at Harris’ Place.
Nights 5: Anagada. First dinner at either Lobster Trap, Potters or Wonky Dog—everyone on this site seems to have their favorite, so we are a bit perplexed.
Night 6: Anagada. Rent Jeep, tour the island, and have dinner at Anagada Beach club.
Night 7: Virgin Gorda/Trellis Bay. Dinner at Beach Bar-B-Q at Leverick Bay—it’s a Friday.
Night 8 & 9: Virgin Gorda. This is where we are having the most angst, although “angst” might be too strong a word; so let’s just say confusion.
• Originally, we had planned moving further into North Sound and eating at Saba, but, after reading recent thread, are thinking that might be a bad plan. North Sound Bistro seems better choice, but that would mean spending another night at Trellis Bay and we wanted to move further into the Sound.
• We are attracted to Nut Oil Bay, but are not sure how to get there—is there a passage along Saba or do we need to go around Prickly Pear?
• Either way, are there mooring buoys at Nut Oil or do we need to come alongside their docks?
• Is Bitter End Yacht Club a dinner alternative for one of these nights?
Night 10: Cooper Island. Dinner at Cooper Island Beach Club for easy return to marina early the next morning.
Thanks to any taking the time to assist us.

Oil nut bay is easy to reach via the well marked channel between Saba and VG.

Not sure why North Sound Bistro would require staying in Trellis... all of North Sound is minutes away in a powercat. Maybe I'm not understanding your meaning here.

NIght 1: - I would take a 5-minute cab to Gene's in Manual Reef Marina. The food is Caribbean home cooking and is run by Gene and her husband, Robin. You really can't go wrong! I do enjoy the beach bar at Nanny Cay for lunch but have never been impressed with the night options.
Night 2 - stop by Willy T during the day and see if they have fresh fish for dinner service. If they do, you can't go wrong. Surprisingly, the food is really good at Willy T even most people associate it with drinking.
Night 3&4 - I love Hendo's and would never discourage you. Personally, I've never had dinner there but I'm sure it's good. I'd save it for lunch and try something different for dinner. Tipsy Shark is a great option. While you are on JVD, don't miss the patties from Sugar & Spice shack by the ferry dock. Joan is truly a gem but don't forget to say good morning/afternoon when you walk into her store.
Night 5&6 - as you say, everyone has their favorites. My go-to dinner places are now Sid's (best place to have a drink with local friends) and Wonky Dog. I like Anegada Beach Club, Big Bamboo, Cow Wreck, or Tipsy for lunch.
Night 7 - If your schedule changes and you aren't there for the BBQ night, get a cab and go to Coco Maya.
Night 8&9 - I'd definitely skip Saba or maybe stop for a drink during the day. I think BEYC, Oil Nut, or North Sound Bistro (this would be my 1st choice) are going to be better options

Oil Nut has a very clearly marked channel that starts between Saba and BEYC. Hard to miss, really...

Sounds great and it's making me hungry! Have fun....

So 3 nights in VG? The beach BBQ is fun and the food is decent. Not the best meal you will have your whole trip but it's good and the overall experience is worth it.

Strongly recommend North Sound Bistro too! But I too am confused why that would put you in Trellis?

If you truly want to "eat your way through" VG/N. Sound I would do the following:
Day 7-Beach BBQ
Day 8-Nova at Oil Nut for lunch and N. Sound Bistro for dinner (Now, THAT is my interpretation of heaven)
Day 9-drinks and lunch at BEYC and dinner at either Coco Maya or Leverick upstairs. Coco Maya is wonderful but it does put you driving or cabbing across the island. Leverick upstairs is consistently fabulous and a totally different vibe than the BBQ. Upside being you don't have to drive out of N. Sound...downside being you don't leave N. Sound. smile

I would do the 3 in Anegada and 2 in VG...

recommend getting a taxi instead of jeep in Anegada. Have Sherwin or Kelly take you out on the reef. We are in the Kelly camp

go see bar at the End of the World at Cow Wreck Beach, Flash of Beauty for snorkeling and then chicken roti there or go next store to Loblolly

Lunch at Hendos per Jason's recommendation. Dinner with Cynthia at Harris is great.

Coco Maya is a must...see Baths via taxi from Leverick in afternoon and dinner at CM right next door that night

Do you have Scotts cruising Guide to BVI?

Wow! you guys are quick!
And your advise is much appreciated.
Reading your suggestions, I think I am confused as to location of North Sound Bistro.
Trip Adviser map shows it West of Mosquito in middle of the sea. I know that is not correct.
Please advise its location while we consider your other suggestions.
Thanks

North Sound Bistro is next to Leverick Bay. You mention Trellis Bay, Trellis Bay is by the Beef Island airport, not near Leverick/North sound

Tom from North Sound Bistro here. We are located about 400 yards west of Leverick. Moorings and a nice dock. The reason for the confusion on Google is that when you sign uo a new business that let you 'rough things in' and then ask you to confirm via postcard! LOL. that'll be the day. There are other options but I havent been able to make them work yet. so waiting on the postcard. not holding my breath

all of what Jason said above!!! Especially Gene's because they are awesome and it's a slightly hidden gem, I had one of the best meals of MY LIFE at Willy T, they had fresh Wahoo that night and the Wonky Dog is a always on point!

Yeah, great advice from everyone really.

I'd highly recommend North Sound Bistro, upstairs Leverick (I would do this way before I would do the beach BBQ) and CocoMaya for dinner. For lunch hit up BEYC or Nova at Oil Nut Bay. Definitely go to Saba to see it and have a happy hour drink.

I attached a map of the approach to Oil Nut Bay for you. So you are aware, Nova is closed Wednesday, Thursday and Friday currently.

If you come by Oil Nut Bay I'd be happy to give you a tour

Bryan, We had dinner at SABA in October. They even put on the Braves game so we could watch a bit of the World Series. I would not count that out because one or two people had a bad experience. I did talk to the manager and we was very nice, he did say they where having problems with staffing, I guess like everyone in the world. I just wanted to pipe in and say don't give up on the place, it has been redone and is beautiful.

Hi Laura, Capt Tom, Bo and VirginGordaResident
Thanks for you comments:
Laura: We will definitely check out Willy's if they have fresh fish and visit The Wonky Dog.
Capt Tom: My wife and I wan to book NSB for dinner on Monday, May 2.
VGR: Your map was very helpful. My wife and I have booked Nova for dinner on Sunday, May 1. Planning on mooring at SR the night before so we can scoot over and try to catch a mooring buoy at Nut Oil. With only my wife and I on board, it easier than trying to dock.
Bo: Heard your comments on Saba Rock and Trip Advisor recent reviews are actually pretty good. Planning to split the difference and have drinks and lunch at SR and dinner at BEYC on April 30.
Thanks again to all.

Hey sorry to interrupt this thread but It will be relevant to the OPs questions regarding Anegada - someone mentioned taxi vs jeep rental - does anyone have a go to Taxi service that we could use to take us up to either cow wreck/ Typsy by Ann? we are only staying on Anegada the one night so think lunch and afternoon up on the north side and dinner at Wonky Dog is all we can reasonably do in one day. thanks!

Ann's sister, Lauren, is the "L" in "L&M Taxi". They are located at the Lobster Trap by the anchorage. They have Taxi service as well as car rentals.

"We at L & M’s do Taxi & Shuttle Service, Tours, Scooter, Jeep and Truck Rental on the beautiful island of Anegada. You can contact us at 2844410563 or 2844439972"

Also, it's a very short walk (150 yards?) between Cow Wreck and Ann's Tipsy Beach Bar so you can easily try them both.

Lauren is a great option! She's my go-to for taxis if I need them....

Do not pass up North Sound Bistro. Tom has created something exceptional there. It’s worth an extra night at Trellis.

I think you meant Leverick, not Trellis, though North Sound Bistro has their own docks and mooring and anchoring space too. I’m looking forward to checking it out in June.

Has anyone gone to BEYC for lunch or dinner since they opened? We are chartering a powercat, party of 8 and definitely eating there for lunch or dinner - suggestions.

We had a group of 8 at BEYC for both dinner one night and lunch the next day about a month back. Both meals were great and a good time was had by all. Neither time did we have a reservation (kind of stupid looking back on it) but didn't have a problem. The food was great, service was better than expected given how busy they were, and I don't see how you could go wrong with either choice!

Have fun!

Any recent updates from Pirates in Norman? We love the atmosphere, but the food was definitely off last summer. We will be back in June and typically spend a night or two in that bay. Lastly, do you have a dinner recommendation close to the Moorings base (walk, dinghy or close taxi ride)? Thank you!
