Pirate ship spotted in the SVI! Arghhhhhhhh!

Pirate ship spotted in the SVI! Arghhhhhhhh! - 08/08/2013 01:57 AM

So on our recent sailing vacation to the SVI we got a sneak peek of a 'pirate ship' that is rumored to be in the next Pirates of the Caribbean Movie.

She was tied up to the breakwater at Marina Puerto Del Ray in Fajardo, Puerto Rico.

The unconfirmed word is that she came to St. Thomas on another ship and then was motored or otherwise conveyed to Del Ray, where she lays at the moment. The name on the stern says "Sunset, Long Beach, CA"

All manner of spars and such appeared to be lashed down on her topsides. She looked to be in poor repair, but was a really cool surprise to see in the marina. That bowsprit is way-cool. Skeleton with a challis in one hand and spear in the other. Arghhhhh!

A couple of pics...

Wonder when and where they will be filming? We are headed down in December and God help us if Johnny Depp is rumored to be in the vicinity. I think we'd end up spending our entire vacation searching for the filming locations and attempting to "accidentally" bump into him. Would be cool to get a glimpse of the set and boat, though I'm sure it would be well guarded.

We could probably have stopped and climbed all over that thing if we wanted. Nobody guarding it.

Wondering if the deck-house with the radar is a permanent installation that will be painted out with CGI, or if they will refurbish the ship and pull the deck house off?

We saw the same ship down there this past April and were told by a local that it was used in the last movie.

The ship is seaworthy and came in under its own power.
It has radar and basic electronics.
The rumors have it that they're going to produce another sequel.

I don't know why I didn't think about this before...
Looked on the web and there's a wiki page about SUNSET!

See: http://pirates.wikia.com/wiki/Sunset_(ship)

SUNSET has served as a number of different ships for Disney.

Sunset was outfitted as the Black Pearl in "The Curse of the Black Pearl".

Here's a pic...

It would be cool to convert it into a mini Pirate Haven with 5 double cabins and a bar open to charterers at the anchorages that it moors in as it circumnavigates the US and BVI'S.

I don't, but would guess if you google 'Pirates of the Caribbean' you'll get some news.
