Looking for a good S Pacific sailing talk board
      #1604385 - 08/29/14 11:13 AM (98.195.152.43)

We just booked Tahiti for next summer; can anyone message me with a talk/info site? If so please msg. me.

Yes, I know this is a BVI site...just looking for a little help from this great sailing community.

Thanks Mike

Here is one sailing trip report from several years ago, also I know that several members here have sailed that area so they should chime in before long.

Here is the one trip report that might be of help: Tahiti Sailing Report and Pics

We have a charter booked next summer in French Polynesia as well. I have found the information on the area to limited compared to the BVI. The Cruisers Sailing Forum has a section on the Pacific & South China Sea that has some information and if you haven't already checked them out The Mooring, Sunsail and Dream Yacht Charters all have guides available online.

We too have found Cruisers Forum to be helpful.

Can't give you a website, but we did the charter about 10 years ago. EVERYTHING about the place is sexy! We did a late June sail. Weather was generally good, but it can change rapidly. We had big seas (6+ ft) and about 20kts. on a sail from Bora Bora to Raiatea. Learn colors in French to decern bouy and marks from the charts. Don't start your charter on a Sunday, everything is closed if you need something. You are doing open ocean sailing going between the islands - 25 nm from Raiatea either direction. Expect your boat to be dived on upon return to the charter base - they are looking for signs of groundings. The water colors and scenery are unforgettable. Learn to love the flavor of vanilla. Don't let your wife go into the dock jewelry store at Raiatea - there be black pearls there!

Looks like will just miss each other. We will be on a Sunsail 444 May 30th-June 13th. The Moorings 4800 is a great boat...we were on one last spring for a St Lucia trip. Any luck finding a source for paper charts? I put the Garmin Bluechart of the region on my ipad app, but it would be nice to have a paper chart. Billy
