We just returned from a 7 night stay at Mongoose Apartments. I hope this review conveys my highest recommendations. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to PM me and I will do my best to respond.
We arrived late in the day, but Sandra (one of the owners) had left us a note on the office door with instructions to locate our unit. As we went up the steps we were greeted by the smell of “clean”. This apartment was very clean and well maintained. It was very obvious that the owners keep on top of any repairs or maintenance that is needed. The owners also had a welcome booklet prepared with information on restaurants, ferry schedules and other very useful information. We also appreciated that the full sized refrigerator was stocked with 2 bottled waters and 2 beers. We did not need to go out that evening to purchase water. We did use the information to locate a restaurant for dinner that evening.
The apartment was very spacious with a living-room, eat-in kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and very large walk-in closet. Someone very thoroughly designed the unit for maximum use of space and comfort. The bedroom is air-conditioned (which we did not need) and has a ceiling fan and floor fan. The bed was a very comfortable pillow-top king sized bed. Between the bedroom and the bathroom is a large walk in closet with lots of hangers and shelving. The best part of the closet was the electronic safe which was spacious with ample room for our laptop, cameras, I-Pods, wallets, passports and still lots of room left over. The living room had 2 built in sofas and even had cable television which was great for keeping up with the news. Also included were beach coolers that we took advantage of a couple of days. Don't bother bringing beach towels because those were also provided. These folks thought of absolutely everything! I sprained my toe and Sandra was able to provide bandages to wrap it with and that was truly a lifesaver. If you run out of reading material, they have one of the biggest lending libraries I have ever seen and we have been to numerous large resorts.
The design of the units is such that each patio area is private. It was lovely to sit out in the early morning or late afternoon and just enjoy the peaceful sounds of nature. If you are a smoker, an ashtray is provided on the patio area because the units are non-smoking. As a non-smoker this was very important to me. If the unit had been smoked in, I would have known.
The kitchen is compact, yet well provisioned with any cooking utensil you may need. We do not usually cook while on vacation, but ended up cooking most of our meals. It was so convenient to use that well equipped kitchen to prepare our meals. Bobby's grocery store is literally a 5 minute walk from the apartments and had everything we needed at a reasonable price considering the island location.
Sandra was very helpful with arranging for a Jeep rental and even made dinner reservations for us one evening. When we first arrived, we had difficulty with the WiFi and she was so willing to help us figure it out (I get cranky when I can't access my email!). Once we had the WiFi figured out, it worked great. The connection was so good, we were able to use Skype to make numerous calls home.
The location is ideal. The beach is an easy 3 minute walk on a picturesque paved road. The beach is hands down the best beach in Cane Garden Bay. Very clean, fine, soft sand. The owners have comfortable lounge chairs as well as beach toys for your use. We were on the beach one day when 3 cruise ships were in port (Road Town) and did not feel crowded at all. The “cruisers” did not tend to walk down to that area. They seemed to stay close to their taxi-bus drop off area.
If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask. I can not recommend Mongoose Apartments enough. For us, we feel this was the best location in terms of beach access, dining locations, entertainment and super clean and comfortable accommodations. We just returned and can not wait to go back!
