LocalSailor said: Rick you might try a well designed motor sling and use a halyard to get the outboard on board without too much difficulty. [Not suggesting you try this underway.] If you really felt the dinghy towing was at about the limit of safety consider what losing or submerging the motor will involve too. Sorry I missed seeing you both this trip. We have a 4HP Yamaha that we take on longer trips that fits on our stern rail outboard mount. It works well enough inside the harbor. Not so good for a run from Water Island to Frenchtown. After getting the outboard off, getting the dinghy on the bow is not a big deal. I'm just not going to tow a dinghy anywhere we think we'll drown it. The reality is that we don't need a 10' RIB with a 15HP engine for most of our cruising about. We're shopping a 8' row-able dinghy with a wee engine for our liveaboard sailboat. Craigslist is full of them in MD, many with oars and sail kits, for a quarter of the price of new. See you next trip! Cheers, RickG
