Just got back from 2 wonderful weeks on the island and I am going to attempt my first shot at a trip report. I started daily reports while I was done there but just got to “busy”.

Travel – from Boston via American Airlines through MIA on the way down SJU on the way back. All flights were uneventful and on time. Rented a car from Unity. Michael and Josef are terrific as always. Had a Toyota Yaris for 2 weeks and drove around the island on 1 tank of gas!

Weather - Very unsettled the first week. Lots of clouds, rain and wind. Had a day trip on the Celine scheduled but it was too windy to go. Did have a great breakfast with Captain Neil and his crew headed out through the lagoon and he left it up to us if we wanted to head out but it was too rough for me. Second week was absolutely beautiful although a bit humid. Thank goodness I had 2 weeks or I would not have been a happy camper!

Restaurants
Lees –Dinner here twice- Grilled Red Snapper Filet. I know there are mixed reviews about this place but in my opinion they have the best Red Snapper and I look forward to it every year. Sides just ok. Disappointed that they are now serving a white rice and a cup that has a bean sauce to pour over it. Yuck. Bring back the other rice!
Toppers - Dinner here twice. Grilled Chicken Mango Salad and Red Snapper Special both very good.
IZI – My new favorite place also went here twice because we loved it so much. Great food and reasonably priced. If you do go ask them to make a Shrimp Ciabbata appetizer. It was on the menu one night and when we went back it wasn’t but asked for it. Delicious!
The Stone - First time here and loved it and would definitely go back.
Pineapple Petes and Peg Leg Pub – good although I didn’t care for my dinner at Petes- Crab Stuffed Grouper which was really just a lot of stuffing and had the Red Snapper at Peg Leg which was very dry.
Skipjacks - I think I am done with this place. Had the grouper which was boring, service was extremely slow.
Sky’s the Limit - hadn’t been to the lolo’s in Grand Case in a while so decided to give it a try. It was just ok. I had the Spicy Garlic Shrimp which kept me up all night. Next time I will try another place.
Lido – Have to say this was very good. Decided to eat in one night with friends and we all really enjoyed it and we all thought it was much better than a few years back.
Granduca – Went here because of all the good things I have been reading about it on this board. This was our last dinner on the island and it was wonderful. Excellent food, Excellent service. Can be a little pricey but it is well worth it. Made reservations but really didn’t need too.

Beaches - Spent lots of time at Mullet, Orient and one day at Dawn. All were just wonderful. We did have lunch at Pedros which was ok, Orange Fever – had a salad that was just ok. I wish I got the Pizza that looked really good, Andy and Cheryl’s- Grouper sandwich for me YUM and beer battered scallops for hubby – delicious.
Also got a custom made bathing suit from Luiz (thanks to this board). I loved it so much I went back last Friday and asked him to make me another which he is mailing to me.

Island Observations - Traffic was not bad at all. I really think the roundabouts have made a big difference. We both thought the island was also cleaner than normal.

Loved every minute of our time there and we are counting the days until next April!
