Ahhh Bequia...
we arrived from CLT via Barbados, then SVG to Bequia. SVG met us and expidited us thru customs and security. The SVG flight was quite the ride, but we made it down safely.
We spent a week at Smitty's on Lower Bay. Smitty's was beach basic, but very clean. The balcony looking over the bay was a perfect breakfast and afternoon setting. We did not do much except lay on the beach, swim and eat. That's what we were there for.... We ate at L' Auburge (twice), Coco's, Gingerbread, Mac's, Mangos and Frangipani for dinner. We always ate the catch of the day or lobster at all except Mac's (great pizza). I recommend all of these highly except for the buffet @ the Frangipani Jump Up on Thurs. nite. The steel band was great, but the buffet was not that impressive. The fish we had as the main course ddi not taste fresh. For lunch it was Tommy Cantina's, Mangos, Da Reef, Dawn's, Green Boley. Standard salads and beach food. We ate breakfast at Gingerbreads a couple of times, but mostly ate the freah bread, pastry, fruit and cheese we bought in Port Elizabeth's. Bequia was not very busy at all for the Thanksgiving week and we were the only tables at some of the places. I hope business improves for all. Fat Man's taxi is the best and I can't say enough good things about the guy. The weather was great. The ocean was a little churned up, so the snorkleing at Lower Bay was not that great. The rollers were hitting the surf pretty hard at times. I was told it was unusually rough... but it was fine for us. We found quite a lot of sea glass, drank 3 bottles of rum and hit all the beach bars. Tried to watch sunset at the Devil's Table, but the clouds did not co-operate. Hat's off to King at the Turtle Sancturary, we need more of his type in this world. Great trip, great people and very relaxing. SVG did cancel our flight out of Bequia, on Sat. morning and advised us to catch the ferry to St. V to catch a different flight to Barbados. Luckily, we were packed and enjoying a coffee on the balcony when they called at 8:30 am to tell us to catch the 9am ferry. The Fatman came thru... he rushed to pick us up, called the ferry to have them wait and arranged a friend of his to pick us up in St. V to rush to the airport. We made it with a few minutes to spare. The CLT airport was a zoo, but it was Thanksgiving weekend, wht do you expect. We have learned to accept travel delays, as part of the experience.
We shall return.
