6/2/11 Sunday
We had our complimentary breakfast at the hotel today. I had bought some nutmeg syrup for my pancakes since the hotel serves Aunt Jamima (sp), along with eggs and toast. Kim had eggs, bacon, and toast both were very good. We walked down the beach and to the supermarket for some things we needed then went back to the beach to watch the regatta again. We had planned on doing more exploring this trip since Kim only had one full day on the island when we were here with Skyelark last year. We figure what we don’t see this year we can see next, that is one nice thing about taking an extended vacation, you don’t feel rushed to do anything and can really get into island mode. We sat a lot closer to the action I waded out into the water near the finish line to get some real nice pics. It was fun to watch the people cheer for the boats from their hometowns and islands. It got especially boisterous during the championship matches. As I was taking a swim a local woman, who was with her young children asked if I would keep an eye on her while she swam. I agreed and we had fun, under mom’s watchful eye, as I would tow her around in her tube while making motorboat noises. She spent her time between splashing me with her feet and dunking her older brother, laughing and smiling from ear to ear the entire time. After a while mom called her to come in but she would just keep swimming away. I yelled over to mom, “I have one that is 25 and he doesn’t listen either.” I then started to think about Kim’s grandchildren and how they don’t get out of her pool until they look like prunes and started to worry about what I got myself into. After a few swimming races between us, in which I could never quite beat her, she finally went back to shore.
For food we just hit some of the stands on the beach and had flying fish burger, BBQ pork chop, fish cakes and bakes. We went down to the craft market for a while then stopped at Jenny’s place, which is next to our hotel, for a drink. We didn’t feel like going out for dinner so we just spent the evening sitting on the balcony and eating some of the fresh fruit we purchased yesterday.
