Jan. 17: Bequia
I skipped breakfast onboard except for some melon and went ashore to drop off some laundry and then over to Knights Market for a saltfish and bake. Sarah and Arvil had a morning dive scheduled, the rest of us did our own thing, I stopped at the Frangipani to use the internet and relax a little. Once they were back from their dive most of the crew arranged a taxi tour of the island, I had done that once before so I planned to just hang out on the beach at Lower Bay and have lunch at Jacks. Dan gave me a ride over to the dingy and I walked down the beach until I found a suitable spot to swim.

The beach at Lower Bay in Bequia
There was a swell running and the waves were breaking at the small drop off just off the shoreline but once I was out a little the water was fine for swimming. The rest of the morning and early afternoon was spent between swimming and lying in the sun improving my tan, and having a few beers from the lady with the tee shirt stand. Around mid-afternoon I headed over to the restaurant and ordered tuna salad Nicose; the fresh tuna fillet was served with a sesame and pepper crust just seared on the outside leaving the middle rare and accompanied by a nice salad.

Having a drink at Jacks
The food here is good and the prices reasonable, though a bit higher than the local restaurants in town; the ambiance is amazing and a couple years ago Mick Jagger was having lunch in the restaurant when we stopped by. I felt I needed a little exercise so rather than call Dan for a pickup I walked up the steep driveway and back to town. You get some nice views of the harbor while on the road and it is a pleasant walk. Once in town I stopped by the store to pick up a few more bottles of Captain Bligh to take back with me and then noticed the small bar across the street was serving one of my favorite local dishes so I stopped in for a small order and a beer. Dan called and asked that I pick up some okra for the callalou soup he planned to prepare for our dinner tonight, I also got some fresh mint for mojitos a staple on Skyelark. After doing an exchange at the dingy dock, my netbook for the goodies I picked up, I went over to Tommys for a bushwhacker and wifi. The others were back from their island tour when I called Dan to come get me and we had a few drinks in the cockpit while our dinner was being prepared, tonights meal would be the soup and fish pie form the marlin that was caught on the ARC. The Frangipani had live music so there was a big crowd there till late into the night, unfortunately a steel drum accompanied the band (my least favorite type of music) and being we were anchored just off the bar there was no escaping the noise, Bob Marley must have been rolling over in his grave as the butchered some of his songs. I decided to try sleeping in the cockpit and enjoy the nice breeze and stars.
