STT is not consistent as far as the time to get through customs and security. I have walked through in 15 minutes and waited more than an hour. I plan for 1.5 hours. The airport sucks. Little or no food options.
I have flown out of STT many times the last few years. The longest I've had to wait in the customs + security line has been around 45 minutes and that was 7 weeks after Irma when the airport was operating on duct tape. Other than Irma I think the most I've spent in line has been 30 minutes. I've seen much much worse security time waits in other US airports. Early morning RDU comes to mind. ATL for that matter. For me the airport sucks because I'm going home. And that's hardly the airport's fault. Food option is fine - the cafeteria is back open and better than before.
