Covid-19 Update - St. Maarten

Closure of "entertainment" places as of Sunday, August 16

Therefore, as per a ministerial decree, commercial premises for licences for clubs, coffeehouse and bars will be temporarily closed until August 31.

MUST CLOSE COMPLETELY: Bars, nightclubs, discotheques, lounges (e.g. cigar lounges), and adult entertainment.

MUST CLOSE AS OF 10:00PM: Restaurants and any (other) premises operating with a restaurant licence must close at 10:00pm nightly.

All premises that require a licence or permission pursuant to Article 2 of the National Ordinance Licences to be able to sell alcoholic beverages also fall under the ministerial decree.

Government urges all other businesses with a licence to sell alcohol that have an allowed late night closure to follow suit voluntarily eventhough they are not affected by the decree.

The significant increase in active Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations is "a matter of great concern" for government.

The number of active cases in one week rose from 74 to 150, the tally as of August 14. The rate at which Covid-19 is spreading is very worrying, this makes government intervention of paramount importance.

The country is "not yet in a state of emergency."
If the cases continue to increase more stringent measure will be taken by government.
