"Police confiscate scooters from reckless drivers

PHILIPSBURG - The St Maarten Police Force (KPSM) has assembled a special team to crackdown on scooter and motorcycle riders who endanger public safety with reckless driving. Over the weekend the team made two arrests, eight fines were issued and fifteen scooters were impounded.

In an earlier press release, the KPSM issued a warning to the scooter riders about reckless behavior in traffic and that stringent measures will be taken against motorcyclists doing wheelies, driving on the wrong side of the road, weaving around cars, while doing stunts and ignoring red lights.

"Drivers and motorcycle riders have become more brazen and callous with their behavior while driving," notes the police. KPSM condemns this dangerous and illegal driving by users of public roads and has now initiated measures to curb this behavior.

Over the weekend the new police team stopped several of these dangerous riders. St. Maarten Police will continue their efforts to keep the roadways safe."
