It never ceases to amaze me that this one tiny island is so many things to so many people and offers so many contrasts every time we’ve come.

Over the years, and it’s been almost fifty of them, we’ve seen so many changes and so many contrasts. Through good years and some not so very good, the contrasts never cease to amaze me.

As we drove through the golf course today I was reminded of our first visit in 1973 and how very lush and green the course was, vaguely reminiscent of a country club course at home. And today? Not so much…..I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen it looking worse. That dull greenish brown crispy grass that comes after serious droughts and looks like if you stepped in it it would crinkle up and disintegrate.

And just a year or two ago there was so much Sargasso seaweed on the different beaches it made swimming totally unpalatable and required full time rakers to make it even remotely enjoyable. And today? Nary a blade of seaweed to be found - a good thing for sure.

Anyhoo…………another boring day for most visitors but very good for us. Breakfast on the lanai followed by hours in the pool or curled up with a good book on the pool deck. Lunch in and dinner next door at ElZafiro - DH had scallops and I had pan sautéed snapper - dinner with apps, entrees, drinks and ice cream for J, with fifteen percent figured in plus a little extra for our waiter came to $125.00 and was very good.

Home and now to beddy-bye in the very near future.

Respectfully,

pat
