I would bring them for the younger kids. When my niece was five we brought a special one down; maybe had a crotch strap. She was very tiny. Gave it away last year, and it's still in great shape fifteen years later. It is an nrs brand.
Kayak vests tend to be more comfortable as they allow for arm movement. I wouldn't count on getting good ones in the BVI. Definitely bring your on. Comfortable and the right size. They will dry very quickly so that is rarely a problem, but for the little ones, easy to pack2 each. . A good rash shirt with a collar will help to avoid chafing. If they are not comfortable, there will be less tendency to wear them.And there are second chances.
