Yes, Americans can indeed work on the Dutch side without having to apply for a work visa; while Europeans need to do so. But that also means that many Americans come and take advantage of that - which means good jobs are hard to find and those are invariably in the service sectors (and don't pay particularly well). Most such jobs are found by word-of-mouth at local haunts and not on websites or elsewhere.
