Hi everyone. First of all, thanks to those of you who answered the questions that I had prior to my trip. Your input was a big help.
Just wanted to share a little of the experience that my husband and I had last weekend in St. Thomas.
We stayed at the Frenchman's Reef Marriott hotel. It was very nice with a good room overlooking the harbour. The personnel were all extremely pleasant and helpful. The pool was a great hangout spot overlooking the water. Only complaint would be that when we checked-in, they didn't have a waterview room available, which is what we had reserved and paid for. They moved us the following day to a waterview room and sent us a basket filled with goodies as an apology. In hindsight, I would have stayed at the Moringstar Resort. It is oceanfront and on the property of the Marriott, which is where my husband had a conference. The shuttles that run back and forth to each resort were great. Oh, by the way, the Marriott had completely overbooked and were sending people away that had reservations. Other hotels were booked too, so some vacationers had no where to go. I tried helping an older couple who seemed confused and lost find a place. We called some bed and breakfast places as well, but everything was booked. I would have been extremely upset if that would have happened to me.
We ate at Havana Blue, at the Morningstar Resort, and it was by FAR the best meal we had on the island. The coconut shrimp was to die for and their list of fruity martinis is incredible! It was so neat to be having dinner watching the sunset, hearing the waves gently crash on the sand, and then watching the cruise ships sail away. Great restaurant!!! We also ate at the Old Stone Farmhouse. Had read a lot about this place and the ambiance was wonderful but the food was not all that. It was very good, but not incredible. Our dinner at Mafolie was terrible. The view made up for it, though. we didn't complain about our dinner, but the table next to us did. Apparently they have a new chef who is changing the menu around. Needs to do some more changing.
We charted a sailboat for the day, the Jester, and that was the highlight of our trip. We sailed over to St. John and Captin Jim cooked us a delicious lunch. We snorkled at a beach that you could only get to by boat or by hiking in. Wild donkeys on the beach. What a great day! We also headed to St. Croix one day on a seaplane. That was an experience also!! It costs about the same as a helicopter tour of St. Thomas, but you get to fly to St. Croix and hang out. We loved St. Croix, very quaint and laid back. All in all, our trip was incredible. The only bad part was the cab driver who went into a rage about shooting his wife in the knee because of a fight that they got into. I think he was high at the time of our ride and I really wanted out of the cab but was afraid to ask. I hate to even share this because 99% of all the cab drivers were awesome, but I guess it only takes one crazy one to leave a bad impression on you. Thank goodness he got us to our destination. I had never been so happy to get out of a cab! Anyway, that's about all of it. Thanks again for all the info before the trip!
Happy Travels! Sandi
