Just got back from spending a week on Anegada, stayed at Cow Wreck Beach.
I found that the Island has so much more natural beauty than it is given credit for! We all know about the beautiful beaches, but there is so much more! The wildlife (cows, donkeys, bird life, etc.,) are wonderful, and if you pay attention to the vegitation you will see, Wild Orchids, Oliander, Bougenvilla, Whistling Pines, Sea Grapes, Lilies, and many other interesting things.
Cow Wreck was fantastic, Alex, Bell, Wendell and the whole family treated us as long lost friends! The beach is beautiful and the food is the BEST! Bell is the best cook around, Her conch and lobster fritters are made from scratch! She gives you the feeling that your Mother is cooking for you - she really puts her heart and love into everything.
We did try a few other places to eat. These were our experiences from bottom to top: "Potters By The Sea" the food was very salty and not really good, the service was slow and indifferent, and we found that the food worked wonders as a laxative! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Yikes.gif" alt="" /> Next up the list (and I might say a very Big jump) was "Pometto Point", where Jennifer and Joann couldn't have been nicer, and the food and service were both really good. Next would be "Neptune's Treasure". We had lunch one day with Camillia, which was really good, so we went back for dinner another night which was excellent! But we have to say nothing beats Bell's cooking at Cow Wreck, you can't help but fall in love with her and her food!
We hit a couple of other places for lunch. "Flash of Beauty" lunch was fine, I would imagine dinner is probably good. Had chicken and burgers at "Dotsy's" which were also good. And we also went to "Pam's Bakery" for really good breakfast sandwiches.
Spending a week on Anegada, seemed like plenty of time on an Island with supposedly so little to do. But, if you appreciate the subleties of nature, and want to connect with some of the sweetest, most genuine and beatiful people you'll ever meet, than a lifetime isn't enough! Can't wait to return!
