Staying here as I type and never again!! This after years of staying pre and post charter.

It's not unrealistic to expect running water. Absolutely no water pressure in sink, toilet or shower. Maintenance came by and said they are busy and stated they are operating in one tank. High demand in water due to property sold out. I'm sorry I would like a shower after traveling 20 hours to get here.

In addition air con not working in our room. Our friends room working moderately. I will see what they say upon check out , but this property is going down hill. Very disappointing. Will look for an alternate for our post charter stay in 2 weeks.

Also read my post on the One Night in St. Thomas thread. Plain and simple, Emerald Beach does not give a [censored]. I asked for an extra 30 minutes for a "late" checkout as we would have liked to stay for lunch and drinks at their beach bar. FLAT NO! So I said if they wouldn't I'd take the $100+ that we would have spent elsewhere. Answer?? That's ridiculous. So glad I ultimately decided on the Mafolie v. Emerald Beach for our July trip. I'm not interested in a repeat from last November. People in the hospitality industry that behave that way can go #%*%# themselves as far as I'm concerned.

The sister property across the bay Lindberg bay villas is NOT the place to stay as well. Got back home and found a charge of about 150.00 added to our bill /charged to our card with no explanation as to what it was for.Had to call and contest that.

Oh yeah did I mention the flooded lobby on the way out to the airport in the morn.

Mafoli is great but was booked for the whole week.

We also stayed there the night of 6/25 after our charter and had a great time. We arrived on the 10am ferry, went and had lunch and drinks, and they let us check in a couple hours early.

Tradewinds you were fortunate if you received your room earlier than 4:00 pm. We arrived at approx. 2:00 pm and were number 13 in line for a room. We checked in but did not receive our room until after 4:30 pm. Our friends received their room at 5:30 pm.

That night in our room block, there was no water pressure what so ever due to high demand on the pumps - hotel was sold out. The pressure returned early the next morning.

With that said, we did stay post charter as well because I had an existing reservation. I feel the property has gone down hill since we first started staying in 2008. I believe it was a Best Western up until about 2 years ago.

We were lucky. We took the 10:00 ferry over and got to the hotel about noon. There was only 1 ahead of us waiting for a room.

We prefer to stay on STJ for our last night post charter. Inter-Island Ferry is reliable, C&I is a breeze, and lots to do in Cruz Bay.

NCSailor - What do you recommend in STJ that will do just one night?

We've stayed at the St. John Inn for 1 night. It's just a short walk straight up from the ferry dock.

Inn at Tamarind Court is walkable and basic; we have stayed there many times. Cruz Bay Beach Hotel and Coconut Coast Vilas are other walkable options, but they sometimes have a 3-night minimum. Hillcrest Guest House is up a steep hill.

Just stayed at the EB Friday night (a week ago).
AC didn't work in the room.
Shower curtain was so short that we couldn't keep water from escaping.
Seems like it's going down hill.

On the flip-side... we had an excellent pizza for dinner (didn't want the AYCE buffet). They let us ditch our bags in the office since we were too early to check in.

I completely agree about EB going down hill! Will be looking for an alternate location next trip.

Our room post charter had a ceiling leak in the bathroom that dripped on to the floor continuously. A towel was placed strategically on the floor to catch the drips. Being on a beach front location, I am sure it hard to keep sand out of the rooms, but the floors are very sandy. Need to wear shoes in the room to avoid getting sand in the bed. FWIW I did not venture out on the beach so the sand did not come from us.

I somehow made it through my entire trip not being bitten by no-seeums, sand fleas or mosquitos until the last night at EB. I was covered in bites, as was my husband and son by check-out time. This happened during our last stay at EB as well.

Sigh, on the positive note, they do serve a great welcome rum punch!

even calling it a resort is a stretch

We have stayed one night at the St John Inn and also Inn at Tamarind Court. The past three years its been Tamarind. The rooms are nicer and they have a small bar and restaurant. Can't go wrong with either place.

For those who stay in St. John:

How do you get from St. John to Tortola, either Soper's Hole or Roadtown? Do you have to ferry back to St. Thomas, then on to Tortola?

In future, if my group is a party of 8, I think we will try one of the private ferry services from STT to Tortola or vice versa. By the time we add the cost of rooms for a night (at least 2 rooms if 2 families), food & beverage and cost of the ferry to Tortola we should be at a break even. Plus it saves us a day or 2 if we take the private ferry pre and post charter. Other option is to charter out of STT, something we are seriously considering.

Most, if not all, ferries go from Red Hook or Charlotte Amalie to Cruz Bay before going on to the BVI. On the way back, almost all ferries go through St John for Customs and Immigration. There are some ferries that clear at the Tortola Wharf in Charlotte Amalie.

Interisland Ferry runs three times a day from Cruz Bay to West End. And they run on time!
