Hi all, new here! Been to SXM once and heading back this January. We didn't rent a car last time, but are thinking of renting one for 2 weeks this time. I contacted pretty much every car rental place mentioned on the board and Banana Location was one of the lowest prices and returned emails promptly. Any one have any experience with them - good/bad?

Never heard of them. Remember you get what you pay for and lowest price isn't always the best.

Never heard of them and I don't recall seeing them at the airport. Do they pick you up at the airport?

I think they are based out of Grand Case. They do offer pickup and drop off at the airport.

With "Location" in the name, they're a French-side company.

Make sure the airport pick-ups will be done at PJIA and not just at L'Esperance on the French side. If they say they offer the service they probably do both airports but it wouldn't hurt to double check. I did specify SXM and they offered to take our luggage to Orient as well, since we're four people in a small car. Is $450 USD for two weeks (tax and liability in) for a compact car a decent price? I got a pretty wide range of quotes.

We just used them in July and had a great experience with them. Car like new, met us at airport. Promptly answers emails and good price. We did stay on french side. They picked us up at airport and brought us to our villa where the rental car was waiting. There are several reputable rentals on this site that are sponsers but we used banana location as suggested by owner of villa rental and we were happy. Would use them again next visit.

Rented from three different agencies on the French side, never an issue. No-no, dolphin, and can't remember. We always cab to hotel/ villa ( on French side) and rented the car a day or two in when we got restless.

That might be a winning idea Travelhat. Might be hard to leave the loungers at Orange Fever for the first few days!

450 for two weeks seems high to me. i go season, and pay a lot less per week for a mid size car. i would check the sponsors here....i think you will be pleasantly surprised. Personally, i am a fan of AAA. Someone mentioned a fairly new car...well...that isn't what i want. i also request a fairly used car..with a few dents and scratches. less of a ''target'' i looked up the banana place on the net..and notice that they are priced in euros. euro pricing is more than usd dollars. beware of the EXCHANGE rate.

In a word, Yes. $450 is fair price. Total: High Season/Liability ($5-$12/day)/Tax (10%)/USD

Depending on how much luggage you take, a small car with 4 people may be a squeeze. George

I think our plan now is to cab it to Orient, relax a couple days and have the car delivered to the condo. Petit Casino has enough stock to keep provisioned for a couple days.

And Petit Casino delivers in the Orient Bay area, for FREE, if you spend 50E...
