Our last few charters have been to BVI which is absolutely wonderful but we decided to try something new so looking for any info you might have on a St Lucia Charter. Best beaches and snorkeling spots, overnight mooring, restaurants, bars etc. Also would like to find a nice quaint hotel to kick off the trip. The gang on the BVI forum have been just a wealth of information in the past, so hoping for some great tips for this group. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/toast.gif" alt="" />

best snorkeling is down around the pitons.. anse cochone, anse chastenet, jelousie beach.
Overnight moorings - Marigot bay (most beautiful spot, hurricane hole), Soufrierie (below the pitons, very nice), Jelousie bay (great snorkeling, good moorings), Rodney bay (can be loud but near lots of activity, hike pigeon island fort, go to town).
Quaint Hotel.. I'd pick something in Marigot Bay. Same for restaurants, quiet bars, etc.
Lot of charters originate in St. Lucia and then go south to Grenada, by passing St. Vincent and hitting the Grenadines. Depending on your time, and what the charter company will let you do, to the north is Martinique, Isle de Saints near Guadeloupe, Dominica. Speaking French can really help if you go to Martinique.

Marigot is about 30 minutes from the Moorings base. I probably wouldn't stay there. Might be better to just do a sleep aboard at the base.

I would highly recommend a stop in Marigot though and just see about docking there - docking (and a mooring ball as well I believe) gives you access to the Capella resort and it is a great resort!

Our boat was in St. Lucia, but since it was in Moorings, we pretty much only chartered in the BVI. But we did 3 trips there - 3rd was just a couple weeks ago to move the boat to the BVI and second we spent the whole time at Marigot Bay and enjoyed the resort with a day sail to the Pitons.

So first trip, we did go all the way south to the Tobago Cays. We stopped in St. Vincent (Moorings had a base there at the time), Bequai, Canouan and the Tobago Cays (maybe another stop as well, it was a while back).

This past trip while moving the boat, our first stop was isle de Saints which is part of Guadeloupe. We actually back tracked there after trying a Marina on the mainland of Guadeloupe. I'm glad we did as it was awesome. I think going North could be a great trip - Martinique and Dominica would be great stops as well and Isle De Saints is well worth a visit.

The only thing I find negative about that area is the boat boys and everyone else trying to sell you something. They are all a little to agressive and don't take no for an answer. Best answer I did find our last trip was to say "I don't have any money to tip". That sends them of pretty quick. Only other issue in that area (mainly south of St. Lucia) is that the crime is more of a problem. You need to be more aware of your situation and I'd never spend the night in a spot where there were no other boats.

Otherwise, a trip North or South could both be great.

Matt
