Pulling my hair out trying to fly from Ottawa, Canada to STT. Last year, no problem 4 tickets from Ottawa to STT for app $700 Canadian/ ticket, 1 stop in Newark on the way there and 1 stop in Phili on the way back. was able to make the ferry to Tortola upon arrival. Worked perfectly!
Now trying to fly a family of 6 to STT is as expensive as flying to Japan!!!
what happened???!!
not only are the flights crazy expensive, the connections and stop overs are boarding on ridiculous! Most flights also seem to require stopping over in SJU now as well.
What makes it even worse is that we actually want to get to Tortola but forget about trying to figure that out as it is just too expensive to fly everyone into beef island.
too frustrated! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/smashpc.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

When are you trying to get down to the STT.
I am seeing YOW - STT $450-$550 w/2 stops in Sep 2017

For late June. Days are a little odd as we are flying in on a Wednesday and flying out on a Monday.
Might have to think of going through st. Marteen at this point.
Anybody know of a good charter air service that could fit 12 passengers? (6 adults and 6 kids) Would Win air do a charter?

Friends just flew Air Canada from Toronto to Antigua and from there via LIAT. The Air Canada flights were quite cheap; perhaps you could check that option.

LIAT certainly seems like an option. quite cheep compared to WinAir.... reviews don't look too good though!
I have heard some horror stories on this forum of people getting bumped to later flights and lost luggage. I wonder if that would happen if there were 6- 12 of us flying (2 families of 6).
seems like a gamble but for 1000 US for 6 to travel round trip from St. Maaten to EIS maybe worth the gamble?

Yeah, Antigua and SXM are easy to get to from Toronto, both Air Canada and Westjet have direct flights there a couple of times a week. LIAT is a whole different kettle of fish though. There's a reason they call it Leave Island Any Time, or Luggage In Another Town. LIAT usually gets you there, but I wouldn't count on them delivering you to your connecting flights unless you've got a lot of layover, may want to have a contingency...

LIAT is a pretty miserable airline, as the previous poster has noted. I've always arrived where LIAT was supposed to take me, and my luggage has always arrived with me; but with few exceptions the flight has been late - sometimes just a couple of hours but I've had overnights in ANU before (paid for by LIAT).

At the moment cheapest option is to fly out of Syracuse (which is a three hour drive from Ottawa) fly to STT and ferry over. the Flight gets into STT at around 1:00 so lots of time to catch the ferry to RD Town.
Funny thing is if we return on the Monday (July 3) price goes up to over $1000 CN. If I return on the Tuesday (July 4) the price goes down to $700 CN... I think it is a good excuse to stay another day <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

Just to close this thread - I ended up booking through Syracuse and coming back on the 4th. Staying an extra day in CA but now leaving @ 8:30 AM and arriving back in syracuse at 6:00. While we are staying an extra day it means that we arrive earlier on Tuesday and can drive back to Ottawa the same day. (instead of arriving after 11:00 at night!) On the plus side, saved over $300 per ticket by changing my itinerary and over $500/ ticket by not flying out of Ottawa.
Anyway a pain in the A$$ but looks like with the low Can $ this is the new reality for us Cannucks! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Sad.gif" alt="" />

Well done, flights from Toronto have gone from 600-700 to 900-1000 for the good dates. May be back to Buffalo and Detroit.

Cheapest flights I was able to find was $2k or their about. Late June early July is a little more pricy i guess. Also less options from Ottawa. Most flights have us going to TO for connection to the US.

We have noticed that flying Delta from Tulsa OK to STT, the fares have skyrocketed !!! Coach is almost $1,500 per person flying in late December. That's almost double what it was a year ago.

One thing to keep in mind about leisure travel. Prices are effected by business travel because the airlines chase margins. When business travel is strong the airlines shift capacity to business markets and reduce capacity in leisure markets. In a business travel downturn the airlines shift equipment back to leisure markets and bargains abound. Currently business travel is very strong.
