Woke up this mornin' feelin' fine.........
And then It dawned on me, the reason we were out so early for breakfast at the Yacht Club was because 'our three girls' were leaving today. Breakfast was good and the Bloody Mary complete with three shrimp was interesting and delicious, so I was told. I'll stick to Mimosas myself. Breakfast done, a rental car dropped off and the first airport run completed with no problems for the JB flight. Or so we thought........
But oh, no.......Delta is having issues. A one hour delay. Uh, oh.....two more hours tacked on. Mechanical issues and the new departure time is 5ish if nothing else goes wrong. Time to make some decisions. Karen chose to fly into Atlanta with Rene and connect to JFK. It's gonna' be a late night for her, for sure. All this and then to collect the car and drive back to CT. It happens to every carrier now and then but there were issues with her Delta flight down, too. Makes me think JB may not be sooooo bad after all.
After speaking to Kim, it seems the JB flight had their own issues today. I don't know a lot of details but somehow her flight got diverted into Hartford/Springfield to refuel before ultimately landing at JFK.
So! The kidlets are all gone and left to our own devices, what did we do? We took long naps on our balcony to recharge after spending 5-6 days with them acting as our social directors.
But we did at least rouse ourselves to go to dinner at FIG and Bananas. We shared an escargot app which was lovely and we each had their grilled rib eyes with sides. So full we didn't even consider desserts, but our apps, entrees, drinks (wine and iced tea.....) and aperitifs brought us a total check of $110.00 with no 15% added on. It was all very good and I wouldn't hesitate to return.
A quick deposit at the casino and here we are, home again and ready for lalaland, big party animals that we are.......
Respectfully,
pat

Thanks for another update. Glad you had another good meal. Sooner or later, every airline will have a problem with their flight/schedule. Hope today is another good one.

And at 7am I spoke briefly to Karen. She got back home at 3am. No root canal butshe had to be at work by 8. This morning. Yikes!
Louise - I have to confess - the Bloody Mary was Kim's and she loved it. Said it cleared her sinuses quite nicely.

But it's great to be "social director" for "the kids". Thanks for your report.
Next SXM visit -November 2023. Also January 2024.

Not so sure who was directing who, Norm.
It's almost ten o'clock in the morning and we're just now finishing our second cup of coffee and we still haven't quite decided what we're doing or where we're doing it today.
I guess I could blame it on the colds, right? <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" />

jazzgal said:...I really enjoy eating at FIG; never a bad meal there. I don't understand at all why they added the "and Bananas" to their name. i believe one of the owners told us "fig" refers to the dining/restaurant aspect of the place and "bananas" to the drinking/bar area in the back

Sorry you are still dealing with your colds. Based on your early report of the onset of the colds we stocked up on cold medicine before leaving the states. So far so good. GCBC is fabulous.

I just knew you'd love it there. Do they still have the little golf cart connection to take you to dinner? We thought that was fun, too.
Tomorrow we move to Beachside Villas and we're very excited to stay there again, even if it does mean packing up twice.
Glad the cold info helped - I often find being prepared in advance helps ward off some things (or bring them about?) like wearing your raincoat and carrying your umbrella and chances are, it won't rain - but leave home w/o them and the heavens are apt to open up. Drive around in a scrungy car and it won't rain, but washing and waxing it almost assures you it will. We had almost every medical situation you could think of covered, but due to our January trip down here, the cold meds were in very short supply, so of course we needed more and we had to go looking for them to replenish what we had. But in the end, you know the drill - a cold is acold and needs to run its course.
So when do you go to Sapphire? I hope your experience is as good as my friend Teresa's was last month. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />
