Yes, we dropped off friends that were going home on the Spirit flight today and we assumed the plane departed. We recd a text from them at 4:30 that they had boarded and then had everyone deplane. I understand the entire airport was closed, but thankfully everything seems back to normal.

The JB flight from BOS arrived 4 hours late.
The AA flight from MIA and the JB flight from JFK diverted to SJU. The AF flight from CDG went into a holding pattern 100+ miles north of SXM.
The incoming passengers were only delayed a bit. A lot of outbound passengers with connecting flights probably won't make it home tonight..

We were in the airport at 9am for our JB Flight to Boston at 12:09 The inbound flight arrived at 3:05pm. The lower level of the airport was cleared and all passengers waiting at those gates were told to go upstairs. A tape was put across the stairs and all security went down. I can only assume that the passengers on that flight were screened for a second time. The airport was officially closed but the most info we could get was that it was a security threat. After about nine hours a passenger told me that he googled it and it was a bomb scare on our inbound from Boston. At that time my wife and I decided to rebook for tomorrow. Getting to visit Simpson Bay tonight. Not the way to end a beautiful vacation. Carib cheers, doctorj

Wow, sounds like a horrible day for you. Too bad they couldn't give you some better information than what you could get off the internet!

It was quite concerning when you hear flights diverted from Sxm over the speakers and all security heading to one area. Couple that with the plane being isolated on the tarmac and the worries start. We flew yesterday back to Boston and are now at home. What a crazy world we live in. The report says the threat was called in at 2 pm. Imagine those pilots on the inbound and how they must have felt. Still no explanation why they were so many hours late leaving Boston. Glad to be home. Carib cheers, doctorj

Glad you finally made it home ok. When you get the chance, would appreciate hearing about the rest of your trip, the less stressful part!

WOW!!! We arrived at PJIA about 1:30 for a 3:40 flight on Delta. We lingered a bit to finish a beer before heading upstairs. We probably cleared security a little before 2:00. Noting usual in the terminal area, but once we boarded our flight we were told that PJIA was closed because of an equipment problem with a JetBlue plane. Our departure was delayed for 1.5 hours.

Two flights from the US were diverted to San Juan, an AA flight from Miami and a JetBlue flight from JFK. The Air France flight from CDG went into a holding pattern off of the BVIs, and was in the process of diverting to Bradshaw on St Kitts when it got clearance to land. I can't get info on the local flights which were delayed or cancelled. Considering the inbound, and resulting outbound, flight delays, over 1000 people were directly impacted.

Just reading this now at 3:30 Monday. So sorry you couldn't have spent that day with us rather than at the airport. It was a glorious day. Looks like we all got out of Dodge just in time though. Rainy Memorial Day here in NJ. Perfect for unpacking and doing laundry. Hugs to Mrs. J.

Thanks Kathleen! As each hour went by we were just told it was delayed another hour. Eventually the departure didn't even show on the board. Long ugly day at the airport. Cold and rainy here also. Great vacation though. carib cheers, doctorj
