Hi from Annapolis-
10 days in Dream Yacht Lagoon 420 Mom, Dad, three kids 12, 16, 18....
What are the best water toys to carry- SUPs or kayaks?
Best place to rent?
Any worries about theft? Our boat was boarded last yeat October 2016 after Foxy's Catfight, a pineapple water float went missing....

I just rented a SUP and some other toys from Island Surf & Sail ( www.bviwatertoys.com) based on Malcolm's recommendation for later this month. They have been very responsive so far. I have also seen BVI SUP CO recommended as well. http://www.bvisupco.com/

I've had a good experience with both 'water toy' rental businesses. The problem is we seem not to use the toys much. You might enjoy bringing some 'blow-ups' and leaving them behind, just another option. However, bring an electrical air pump (and take home with you). Our crew brought a huge unicorn blow-up that was a big hit. You can even tie it behind the dinghy and do rides with the kids.

Our kids (similar age) prefer SUP. They use the toys non-stop when in the anchorage. Suggest at least two SUPs for your crew.

It is a lot of effort to keep all the "toys" in place while sailing. A few noodles and the use of the dinghy is what i would recommend. The calculus is the effort vs. the enjoyment & frequency of use.

Island Surf & Sail handled ours last month. Couldn't have been happier, great communication, helpful advise and everything tied down and stowed when we arrived. Put everything back like they have it and you won't have a problem. Consider a tandem kayak and an SUP. Two more words and I'm done: LAZY BUNZ!

We put a two man kayak on one side and a stand up paddle board on the other. We only do that if we have two strong reliable and very cooperative crew happy to put them in and retrieve them at each stop. Putting a Kayak in and out is not a safe one day project. It is dangerous when kids or adults do not handle the loading and unloading responsibly.
When the boat stops the happy crew puts all the toys in and declares "the pool open" with a smile. Any doubt on the crew cooperation and the toys stay on the dock.
Bring some light inexpensive colored line to hang all the toys off the back of the boat.

There's nothing dangerous with the launching and retrieving of a kayak.
