We have started spending our last night in Charlotte Amalie so we don't have any problem catching our flight home from STT the next day. Two years ago in May we got a good price through Expedia for Windward Passage and stayed there and it was OK, but the price has jumped high. So, last May it was Island Beachcomber. The rate was reasonable, the wife loved the beach, the bar was ok, but the better half did have some issues with the room. So, we are looking now at Emerald Beach, which I think was once a Marriott, as it is near the airport, too, and on the same beach as the Beachcomber. So, any reviews, opinions, suggestions, recommendations etc. appreciated. Also, who to contact for the best one night rate would help, too.

It used to be a Best Western - nicer rooms --- pool, bar and restaurant on site.

Charlie, We stayed at Windward Passage on the front end of our VG trip 3-4 years ago and found it "ok". Clean room and helpful staff. Stayed at Emerald Beach 2 years ago on the back end and it was more "beachy". If memory serves, and it doesn't sometimes, Emerald Beach used to be a Best Western but has since changed hands. From other reports, prices seem to vary wildly. May be negotiable. For our next trip, we're thinking about hitting WP on the front end again, taking the early ferry the next day and getting a full 1st day on VG. Full disclosure, St Thomas is not my cup of tea, esp. after the peace and quiet of VG so we prefer to just gut it out and make it home in one day. Kind of a "rip the band aid off" thing. One man's opinion.
Mike

Just back and stayed at the Emerald Beach coming and going and one night at the Windward Passage as well...We like the EB and the best rate is the mobile Priceline App on your Phone which was $45.00 less than any other site.
With Tax and the resort fee I paid $152.00 per night...
My suggestion is walk to breakfast next door at the Beechcomber...blows the EB away and less expensive and never busy.
Windward Passage is fine and the renovated rooms are nice and spent one night there with my group as they had a great interline rate and I was paying for multiple rooms for my kids as well...

On our way out of the BVI's we were delighted to run into Dave and Bonnie on their way in..had a lovely breakfast with them ( thanks Dave).Back to the Emerald Beach..its the go to place for us if you can stay for around $200 per night. Dave got a better deal than us but we loved our short stay..and visit with the Normans..plus we had dinner at " Oceana"

Thank you all for your input and info. I will start price shopping for Emerald Beach soon. The EB web page gives one price, and since I searched the web page, Face Book posted a "price drop in St. Thomas" with much higher prices. I'm ready for May to show up soon...255 days out, but hey...I'm not counting!

I actually got a better price by calling the hotel and asking for the manager, she gave me the better price then on their website.

Orange Burst, what number did you call? All of the 800 numbers were either third party booking agencies or not in service. The 340 number went to voice mail when I clicked reservations. Should I have clicked front desk? Input appreciated...

Last year I called 340-777-8800 and I clicked reservations, I then asked them for there best rate and she switched me to the manager.
In 2015 I worked with this contact, not sure if she is still there:
Sharene S. Gumbs Front Office Manager Best Western Emerald Beach Plus Resort 8070 Lindberg Bay St. Thomas V.I, 00802 Telephone: (340)777-8800 ext-5200

Sharene was still there at the end of June. Emerald Beach is no longer a Best Western affiliate, but our party of 11 (3 rooms) had a nice, relaxing last night before our flight home. The crew really appreciated elimination of the "ferry dash."
