Got up around 6:00 and started packing, a little under the weather from staying out till 2:0 am last night. I made some temporary repairs to Kim’s duffle using a fishing hook and some 15 lb test line. Not the prettiest job but it should hold up for the flight to Grenada. We arranged for a taxi to the airport at 8:00. The traffic was heavy that time of the morning, but the driver knew some shortcuts, including one through a lumber company storage yard. The Fare was $50 EC. Our Liat flights were on time and our bags made it through OK. I had a flying fish sub at the airport in Barbados. It was the first time I had been in the main part of the terminal, which appeared to have undergone some refurbishing. It is a lovely airport with some nice shops and duty free stores. Upon arrival in Grenada we took a taxi to the Grand Anse Beach Palace Hotel, $40 EC. Sharon, the owner met us and gave us the key to our room. We are starting out on the first floor but will move to the second floor later this week when there is a vacancy. This is my second stay here the rooms, though small are nicely equipped with and apartment size refrigerator and coffee maker. The Caribbean Sea is just 50 feet from our patio. Strolled down the beach to the area in front of the Spice and Craft market. I took a walk around to say hello to people I met there before, Janice recognized me right away and asked if I had any of my rum punch with me. Kim spent the rest of the afternoon lying on the beach; which was busy, since there were two ships in town that day. I swam and walked around a bit. They are making preparations for the Work Boat Regatta, and judging from the tents and such that are being erected it should be a lot of fun. After showers at the room we took a bus to St. Georges. The city was bustling with activity and many people were dressed in the Grenadian colors as it is Independence Day this weekend. From St. Georges we took the #5 bus to Gouyave for fish Friday. I had promised Kim a lobster, but she wasn’t very hungry so we decided to try a few different things. We had stuffed potatoes, 2 different kinds of bakes, fried breadfruit, shrimp kabobs and some fresh passion fruit juice which was excellent. After taking the bus back to St. Georges we walked around the main street a while taking in the sites of all the people enjoying the start of the weekend. Stopped by the supermarket for some Pepsi and spring water then took the bus back to the hotel. There was a musician playing at Jenny’s Place next door so we stopped in for a drink the called it a night.
