I'm considering taking the family to Tulum in March of 2018, but wanted to get some real-world input on safety as well as any feedback on the resorts. We're a family of four, two kids of 9 and 11 years, looking for lots of beach time, some snorkeling, perhaps some hobie sailing or paddle boarding, and perhaps a mayan ruin and cenote.

We were looking closely at Alaya Tulum, but I'd appreciate other suggestions as well. Thanks!!

I have no qualms about that area of Mexico at all. The last time we went to Mexico we stayed at Dreams Tulum. It was a lovely, family all inclusive. The only issue that I would see is that you have to walk down a little way from the resort to do sailing, etc.

So many great choices, and the beach is amazing. We've not stayed at any of the properties including Alaya Tulum, just day visits from our place to the north. But would suggest researching the trip advisor Tulum forum for useful feedback.

I would consider staying somewhere on the Riviera Maya. Lots of great all inclusive, family friendly resorts. Barcel has great beaches, and they have hobies. You can take the tour to Tulum, and also take advantage of 5th St. in Playa Del Carmen. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Thumbsup.gif" alt="" />

I'd like to be a jelly fish, cause jelly fish don't pay rent.

The Maya Riviera is very safe and family friendly. We've been exploring the Yucatan for 2 years and just bought a condo in Akumal which is north of Tulum. It has 2 bays (Half Moon Bay and Akumal Bay) with lovely beaches with great snorkeling.

There are dive shops and small tour companies if you want to take a day trip inland. At the end of Half Moon Bay is Ya Kul lagoon which has great snorkeling.

There are many options for condo rentals. If you prefer a large, self-contained resort, there are many of those along the Maya Riviera.

We like that Akumal is just a little over an hour from the Cancun Airport. There's lots of transportation options. We used a car service for pickup at the airport and then rent a golf cart while we're there.
