It is so sad to look at the arrivals list and see only 2 actual international arrivals. On a SATURDAY!

I usually try to keep a positive attitude about things and I know many have returned to the island by now and found it easy arriving but many of those people have been arriving with limited carry-on baggage only and on half or less filled planes mostly arriving one at a time.
I can’t imagine arriving on a busy Saturday on one of many of the big and fully loaded planes of a typical high season, most of which generally arrive during the 11:00 to 3:00 average time frame, and trying to navigate the customary arrival things like immigration and baggage claim since most visitors do travel with luggage, and calling it a pleasant arrival experience.
One of our last trips, I’m thinking last January but perhaps it was April past, it was raining like I’ve never before seen it rain on the island in all our many trips over the years. Just crossing the street from the terminal to our car we were soaked through to our skivvies so I can’t imagine doing the entire arrival process in high season outdoors under tents. Maybe with no luggage, but even then, I’m thinking it wouldn’t be pleasant.
They really need to stop the governmental nonsense and concentrate efforts on getting the terminal done. Let’s face it - your first impressions and your final impressions of the island, for the most part, are centered around the airport.
Don’t mean to sound so negative here but in that one respect I can’t help but think about how totally unpleasant that one arrival was. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

Hymmmm. Someone agrees with me!!! I kinda was told the airport was not as important as homeless people. Gee There are many important issues, but without a functioning airport, makes it much less inviting for everyone.. and on top of that!! We need to keep the commercial flights flying in... Oh well kudos on this one for sure...

OK, just dial it back a bit. Many things are important and no one has said that the airport is NOT important.

Whoa there, Sally,
If that’s the conclusion you are drawing from what I said, my point was definitely NOT intended to be the airport should be a priority over the homeless people who have lost everything thanks to Irma’s wrath, but that it, the airport that is, is absolutely essential to the well-being of the economy of the island over all. I guess I didn’t use my words well.
People must always come before things. Even before nice things like airports that grant us easy access to the island we all love.
That’s my story and I’m sticking with it!! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

I also never pretended that the airport was over human suffering. but it was taken that way. I just said it should have started repairs, as the island need folks back, and its not so pleasent in tents. Have done the old airport, with a few fans slowly moving around, and the sweat was pooring form folks. I said what carol said, and now what you said, but from me??? Its breeds some sarcasim Why, ask rural carrier. he is the one to put others down... I do not take offence. laugh at it. but not neccesary. thats all

They have had a lot of problems today and do not do well with any amount of snow.

Again, you do need to stand down. You are way too involved with this and people remember your previous posts. Just step back some.
