We just arrived, picked up car from Lesley (and he is great!). Shop and Drop did a great job (beer in hand)! Flights were good, flew out of Myrtle Beach to Alt, and over night in San Juan (WE WILL NOT DO THAT AGAIN), sorry for the yelling but was well deserved! Flew in on Sea Borne Air (spl). Met Mechelle, she absolutely is a GREAT fit for BSV! Nicholas greate dus with open arms! Couldn’t ask for more! But after all that we are here!!!!
Yeah, I wouldn't do ATL-SJU-SXM either. Maybe ATL-SXM, but definitely not with the extra SJU stop. Both DL and UA are routing pax through SJU on some days, using Seaborn (now part of Silver, I think) as their SJU-SXM carrier. It's quite a hike to the Seaborn gates in SJU Terminal D.
Yea we would normally not over night in SJU, that being said, things aren’t quite normal flying into SXM these days. It has been 16 years since we have been to SJU and again that was an over night also, forgot how bad we hated it!!! LOL! With our schedule and limited on flying days, that’s how it worked out this time. I was told once we arrived at BSV, beer in hand, that SJU is now Permanently off our fly list!! No tears shed there!!
So I know Lesley asked us to try out El Zafiros for dinner, buuut we decide to stroll down to the BUS (Amazingly it survived Irma, funny how some things you thought would be gone after a CAT5+ but just hug around, like the palapa by the pool at BSV! Thought that would have been a kite!). The food was amazing and we just had the best time (Im sure the beer helped some), I had the grouper with mashed potatoes, wife had the steak with the same, and we shared an appetizer of crab cakes! It was fantastic!
The beach is coming back quite nicely! The sand feels like pure silt, and the bottom is soooo smooth with NO drop off! We think it’s the best it’s ever been in many years. There is still a little bit of the foundation visible from BSV.
Hello Carol, the winds have been perfect, not too strong at all! But late yesterday the seaweed started showing up. I’ll take a pic later on and send it. But in reality, every thing that has occurred (Irma), scrambling to change vacations, and super glad to just be back, we’re not complaining.
Not sure. Orient was good yesterday, Cupecoy never gets it. I know the usual suspects are a mess. Dawn Beach, Cul De Sac. Simpson Bay was good two days ago, but obviously that has changed per the post above.

The algae blooms are big this year off the coast of South America from run off, which In turn produces seaweed and is then picked by the currents and now it’s here! Well looks like today is a travel day!
This might be of interest also, UNITED had three jets at separate times in yesterday. In the near future we might look to travel with them! There has to be a better way of getting here! But I can tell you that the puddle jumpers are having a banner year so far!
Beach at Club O had none when we swam there yesterday, it does tend to gather more towards the other end of the beach. Going back to check again today!

Oh yea! Same here, big brown seaweed! I thought y’all were supposed to have a net on your side of the island to caught all this stuff, LOL!!! It’s a lot! But not complaining, just glad to be here!!!
A few years ago as we were flying into the general area of SXM we spotted that brownish tinge lying in the water across much of the area and didn’t really know what it was. Whizz Kid that I am, I thought it might be some type of an oil or chemical spill. It was huge and went on for miles as we landed. We didn’t notice it too much around Mullet or Maho but we did find it at Simpson Bay to a small degree and it was deep on most of the French side of the island. That was the first time we ever saw and experienced the Sargasso seaweed.......ugh! 😊😊
Respectfully,
pat
